This will work itself out. Welcome to the world of litigation (not unlike a chess match) where no one wants to concede defeat. Considering the process is ongoing, best not to comment for the time-being. Good luck.

Hi Daves - welcome to Ribnet!
Sorry for your trouble. Sounds like very bad service from Salterns.
Hope it gets sorted for you soon.

In all my experience I've found that it's always the insurance companies that slow everything down, keep a log of all your expenses and time you have wasted in sorting it out, the insurance companies will squabble with each other, asign a loss adjuster, leave it to the last minute to make you an offer, good luck!

It is difficult to tell from the pictures. I don't know what the weight distribution is on a Sealegs, but the axles on the trailer look to be a long way forward, possibly in the middle of the trailer. If the Sealegs is very tail heavy, it would make the trailer very twitchy and prone to snaking. The LR Hi Cap being a pickup, is light on the tail as well. When towing with defenders, I like to have the trailer nose heavy as it tows so much better and safer. If the trailer setup is not correct for the Sealegs, that may have contributed to the accident?

Those rear wheels look absolutely massive. Are they electrically powered?

...under the seat, IIRC. There was one at HQ recently, I had a good crawl over it. They're an interesting beast and the potential is huge, for certain applications. A little like a hovercraft, I thought. That said, the mechanicals are much more complex than a "simple" boat...

So I assume you had your own insurance? If a third party crashes into your car you don't usually sort it with their insurance you let their insurance sort it. You don't get repairs done by their insurance.

Daves, sorry to read about the accident and see the pictures, as someone who travels the A55 on a regular basis it's a real wake up call, only good thing is you and yours are all safe
a few years back we were unfortunate enough to suffer the loss of a very nearly new outboard which was stolen while the rib was being repaired, to my surprise my insurance company accepted without question their liability, appointed a loss adjuster and to be honest I consider we were dealt with very fairly and the result was a brand new engine which was also supplied and fitted by a main dealer. when we collected the rib there was no sign that there was anything different, other than the dealers sticker had changed on the engine cover. if it were me, I would be asking your insurance company to get involved, as its them who will be providing you cover in the future, as its less than 12 months old it's in their interest to make sure the rib is either repaired to new condition, or its replaced with a new rib
hopefully all will turn out well in the end, be good to meet you on the Straits for a blast sometime, good luck!

The brokerage and their insurance company have admitted 100% liability, however they are dealing with the matter at a snails pace!! We are now 2 months down the line and still we await their engineer's report and their offer of what they suggest to be done. Our insurance company sent out their engineer just to do a preliminary report, but we have not asked them to pursue matters because liability is not in question and we would have to pay a large excess for them to send letters chasing and my wife's friend, a solicitor, has already done that. We have organised our own engineer to look at the boat to give his opinion on the damage and what needs to be done. As stated previously we don't really want the boat back after such an accident, but don't have much choice because you know what insurance companies are like!!

My advice would be to make up a large sign clearly stating how bad their service has been and go down to salterns at the weekend with a chair and a flask of coffee and sit outside their office for two hours waving it back and forth and tell them you will be doing this for 1 day a week from now on until you get some action. Also tell them that next time you come down you will invite the local press to take some pictures and an interview with you.
I bet that makes them do something.
Also on a side line have you been able to establish what happenned with the accident and whether they were properly insured etc.
I think full solicitor involvement may be needed. But perhaps just be a complete pain to them first to see if you get any movement, call them on the phone everyday.

I had a problem with a car that I purchased 2nd hand from Jaguar, made a few calls and didnt get anything resolved then asked to speak with the service manager and he was always unavailable, the service agents always needed to get back to me but never did. I then called the main company head office and got passed from one person to the next, and still didn't get the answers i wanted - so I went down to the dealership on a busy weekend, and again asked for help but got nothing...
I decided to made another call and all of a sudden I was whisked away to the managers office for a talk to resolve my issues...
The call was trading standards on speaker phone, and as I was walking around the dealership with people looking at spending a fortune on new cars listening in....

Excellent idea about trading standards and the jaguar issue.
When I was a kid my mum took some jeans back to a shop which she had bought the day before when she noticied the zip was broken, the shop didnt want to refund her so she sat in the middle of the clothes shop floor and stated she would stay there unless forced to leave by the police or she got a refund, about 30 seconds later she had a full refund in her hand.

Faced with similar problems in the past I have paid a few quid for domain names such as:
and put the facts / evidence on a web-page for all to view.
Receiving e-mails from veryAngryHugh@********freelanderiscrap.co.uk seemed to focus their thoughts...
Mindy you, a few more posts mentioning Salterns and this thread will be top of Google search results.
