Will you be doing it in your boat or are you going to do a race RIB? If you need any help with setup let me know .........

With any luck and a fair wind there could possibly be a one design/engine series racing next year for Rib's - 5 race series - we hope. No more news than that right now!

Just what we all need - another class! Is everyone trying to dilute the number of powerboat racers in the country so that we can all win a championship each?

I wonder who will be making the 'one design'?

That's typical negative thinking. We are trying to increase it as has happened with Marathon.

O.K. tell me where there is a dedicated one design series for RIB's running? In fact tell me where there are ANY RIB's running in numbers in the U.K. - except at Lymington which is the ONLY race being run by BIBOA. There are thousands of RIB's out there with no races to take part in. I don't mind criticism but what are you doing to increase race numbers?

So, why not tap into the largest section of the market place and try to get guys out racing. P1 supersport is working, why not run a similar series with RIB's?

Answers on a post card Cookee.

You must have missed the announcement that P1 are running a Championship for all RIBs starting last weekend - the announcement was a little late in coming but they have included as many different boats as possible including the older race boats. They are also trying to include as many "normal" RIBs as possible - we'll have to see how that works out.

I can see what the thinking is, but a second RIB championship being announced in as many months? I'm sorry I really don't see the point, and unless you've got a really big sponsor, TV etc it's always tough to get people to buy a one design boat - I guess we'll all have to wait for the big announcement - I hope you'll give me something for next months magazine so we can tell as many people as possible - Deadline 2/8/10!

They are. That's what this thread is about.

Why not support that with your one design fleet? You could still award class honours - and you wouldn't need to organise any races which must be a bonus!

Just a thought . . .

< EDIT: Looks like Cookee beat me to the draw! >

I have no intention of getting into a "why not/what if/why" argument/discussion when nothing is yet certain. Complete waste of time so will only post again when there is something positive to say on the subject.

I Think johns suggestion of a one design class racing within the fleet would be good,we are planning to do the next round which is southampton during the boatshow. It would be great to see other ribs out there and interesting to see the diversity of craft given the way the classes have been drawn up

Glad that someone who knows about racing is sorting it out!

Which series - it seems there are two now!

It will be good to have RIB racing again - but think 1 series will be enough! I know P1 have in time plans to have a one-design class running within their series. Also they are hoping to make RIB racing international in time with different countries running to the same rules.

Anyway - hope it all gets supported and we see a good fleet out there racing.

I had an interesting conversation yesterday, and it seems the the one design series is to be an extension of the P1 effort - it is all a little light on details, but the One Design would be the International part of the whole thing.

In essence the existing classes (which haven't actually raced yet) which were based on the old rules and BIBOA's Lymington race would be for National racing, and the International races would be a One Design class.

I don't know why they can't just race the existing classes Internationally though ...............
