Pacific 22 Insurance
I have been trying to get insurance for my P22, apart from 3rd party only. Because the rib is 20 years old, insurance companies want a survey and valuation which is not cheap, I have been quoted £325. would this be the going rate ? Have any other P 22 owners come across the same problem ?

It is common to get asked for a survey on an older boat. However I think that a full survey it is a bit over the top on a 6.5 metre rib.
Some insurance companies / brokers have different requirements. The company that we use asks the customer to get an independant report (quite simple, not a full survey - which basically says that the boat is seaworthy) done by a trade outfit such as a boatyard, or even a surveyor. Some boatyards will be happy to do a report on the vessel for alot less than 300 pounds. It is probably worthwhile phoning around and asking them what their requirements are. I will check tomorrow who we are insured with and post it. Indeed some of the other members coulod post the same information....

Hi Rodger
I use a company in Plymouth called Colin Curtis, they quoted me about £365 for private use and £500 for comercial use ( towing etc ) fully comp, and they did not ask about a survey, more intrested in qualifacations.

Insurance
Ive always used Porthcawl Marine Insurance as they seem to be very resonable.
Just got a quote for approx £150 for my non working P22 but i seem to remember being quoted £150 for my last one also and that actually worked!!
Then i ticked the stupid waterski box and the figure doubled - so dont do it, its not worth it!!
Worth getting a quote though - 01656 784866 or porthcawl-insurance.co.uk

Dont go waterskiing i guess!! Its asking for trouble if your not insured and for the sake of doubling the premium, its hardly a huge loss (IMHO).
Anyway, lets face it, these P22s are hardly the most exciting boats to play behind so i would assume most owners are unlikely to be die hard fans!!

Not sure, because they dig such a large hole you get an enormous wake (well at slow speeds) with a doughnut on a short rope you can have lots of fun dropping the occupant into the trough or holding them on the top of the wave. The occupant has to love the smell of diesel
Incidentally the boat looks great from back there (sad or what)

P22 insurance
Thanks for your replies, I have been on the phone today now awaiting further quotes and policy conditions, should have saved some money to spend on more important things than surveyors eg radios etc
