Paint on Tubes

Hi

I want to paint a name on my RIB and one suggestion on painting on the tubes is, "Remove the outer coating on the tube before you paint on them."

I don't like the idea of removing what seems to be the tube's protection.

Has anybody here painted without removing the outer coating, a name or other motif on the tube.

And how long did it last?

I think it means chemically remove any spray on or rub on protectants. Carefull use of Mek acetone or thinners will get the tubes clean enough for paint. Or you could lightly abrade the surface but then you will never be able to remove the name if you ever want to

Like, if I named it after my wife, then I'll have to change it when the poison takes effect.

But seriously, a light buffing would probably suffice, thanks.

If you need to change to a new name, simply put a new patch over the old name and repeat the process.
