Parachutes for a sun protector?

Hi All....

Has anyone ever used surplus parachutes as a boat cover? I live in rural Downeast Maine, USA where "rib" means Bar-b-que. I have tried to use "off the shelf covers for sun protection but most do not lend themselves well to the RIB design. I could use a surplus parachute as a cover to shield the tubes from the sun but not sure if that will protect from the UV rays. I was wondering if a parachute for a cover would work. Any experince or advice. Thanks, Stormy

ANYTHING that stops the UV will work - even old sacks!!! As long as the material isn't open weave or tranparent then it will work.
