Pete7 involved in secret rib modification testing...

On Sunday I was treated to an eyes only display of this latest bit of technology Vosper Thorneycroft area adding to their ribs, I was told I'd be killed if I told anybody, but I'll take that chance:

First glance, what is that green stick Andrew is holding:

Is it some sort of parachute?

No, not a parachute, but why is it being mounted on the a-frame?

Aaah, now we understand! It's a multi purpose device - acts as an airbrake to stop 2 ton of pac22, and also a parabolic satellite communications device!

I was thinking the same thing having read the write up about their cruise to France last year!

I wish I'd had one on the Thames cruise last weekend though; got very burnt

Air brake requires you to be moving faster than still air.
I reckon he was rigging it as a spinnaker

Perhaps to stop the Paperazzi taking pictures of the crew?

Or! It could be some kind of blend in camouflage to sneak up on people!

Yeh, he's the youngest child of a family with 7 elder sisters - grew up wearing his sisters hand me downs.

Should make it a lot easier for our patrol's to keep track of his nefarious movements within the harbour (apart from the smoke trail). Not many RIB's sport green brollies nowadays. Should show up nicely on Harbour Control's radar as well.

Only hope the ferries don't mistake him for a starboard mark.

It is to protect the crew from the back draft of black smoke!

Gentlemen and Matt, thank you for your interesting comments. I can only conclude that Matt is talking from a position of depth and experience here

There has been a number of modifications from last year and it can now be voice activated whilst underway I voice and young teenager acts

Pete
