Petrol Costs
I have not seen many people commenting on here about the price petrol is at and what it is set to go up to over the coming weeks / months.
Is it a taboo subject? do you just close your eyes and hum loudly when filling up your 200 litre fuel tank

I thought £1.12 at the supermarkets was bad enough - my boat holds 500L and I find these pretty good.....................

You can't do
much about that (although the govt. could reduce the tax on it - ask GB). I think it is much the same everywhere. When I am in the Adriatic, I pay about 1.55 Euros a litre (whatever that is in pounds). The advantage there is that if you have a nippy boat, you can get across to Croatia, which IS much cheaper (or was last time I went).

I predict a Ospray 6.5 Vipermax build thread coming up - which includes a 5 meter mast and a built in spinnaker compartment

Either that or pedals
Especially after seeing the predictions today that a barrel is set to climb from $135 to $200 over the coming months

You could well be right Chris, however, there's alot of speculative froth in oil futures at the moment, could well be $75 by the end of the year (fingers crossed).

The price of crude oil today is not made according to any traditional relation of supply to demand. It is controlled by an elaborate financial market system as well as by the four major Anglo-American oil companies. As much as 60% of today's crude oil price is pure speculation driven by large trader banks and hedge funds. It has nothing to do with the convenient myths of Peak Oil. It has to do with control of oil and its price. How?

Anyway I'm going to do my best to burn up about about 150 liters on monday if you fancy a trip down the Thames

Hard to believe petrol and diesel was 97p a litre in September 2007. Diesel has increased by +30% in some places, and unleaded isn't that far behind.
Goldman Sachs have suggested that the price of a barrel of crude could reach $200, which equates to £1.50 a litre for diesel. Never mind the bl**dy boat, at this rate I won't even be able to haul it to the sea!

And yet if the government got rid of our taxes we would pay about 60p - I could happily live with that!!!

Luckyly I only sell & use sibs with 05/18/30 HP engines, right now paying $ 5.25 per 3.75 ltr/gallon for pure 95 octane unleaded gasoline (a goverment tax crime along with dollar on the floor thanks to Uncle Sam)) Down here, would be virtually impossible to sustain large ribs & engines like the ones you are used to drive unless you were a tycoon.
The only thing left is to maintain a good spirit, be positive that fuel prices will in some unknown time begin to move down, meantime untill this miracle happens, will continue to burn high priced gasoline and have good times cruising.
Happy Boating (when possible, tumbs up)
