Piel island off furness peninsula.

I'm thinking of paying a visit to piel island launching from Knott End Fleetwood and staying over for a night or two. http://www.pielisland.co.uk/
does anyone know if there is a safe harbour to moor up for the night.

there are moorings although they belong to folk...but probably get away with it. and a water taxi in summer. You could find a sandy bit and beach it and dig a couple of anchors in - fore and aft, making sure you can get off on the next days tide of course

Thanks for the intel Dave. Ye on the youtube video the tidal bore round Arnside is quite something, just hope it's not like that round Piel island otherwise them private moorings would never hold fast Weather and tides will play a big part in timing a visit to Piel. Any advice you can give would be greatly appreciated Dave.

it'll be fine, our gang nips over for an evening/afternoon regularly and its the local yotties' regular weekend trip to the pub. Post it on here when you decide to go someone around here may be available.
Go on a small tide which will make Knott End easier and leave some jetty to tie up to at Piel. When/if you do tie up to the jetty (thread a rope thru the planking) keep an eye on it cos you are going to have to move it very regularly as the tide floods/ebbs.
A small tide means you aint gonna hit bottom en route (well not without really trying!) - which you might do on a spring.

Pikey Dave, hadd and myself have booked the camp site on Piel for Saturday the 30th June into Sunday for a bit of and I sent an email to the King and asked if there was anywhere to safely moor up for the night and received a reply back saying no problem
