We have contacted the coastguard and VTS. Both authorities have requested that we keep them informed and then on the day contact them by VHF but neither have any objections. So yes we have the green light and it would be great if evrybody can support this event.
Its going to be a friendly and fun occasion and the main idea is to get everyone together that has an interest in ribs. We will hold a BBQ in the afternoon and then drinks in the evening for those who can stay on.
This will be a race but at the end of the day we want it to be a day that everyone enjoys. On the spot prizes will also be awarded. In 2011 we plan to increase the categories. The RYA have been alerted.
I hope that you have plenty of insurance in place seing as you have used and promoted the word "Race" we used to get away with holding big RIB events on Hayling 20 years ago but I dont think you wil get away with it now> I wish you well but please do cover your arse for everything Alan P
Incidentally, it may not be a good idea to run 100 amateurs trying to race across Bullock Patch on a Saturday in August as there may be a lot of people fishing there.

The race will begin just outside the entrance to Chichester Harbour on the South Coast and it will be a dash to the Nab tower and back (approx 13 miles).
Meet at Sparkes Marina, Hayling Island.
Category 1: Ribs up to 4m (£25 entry).
Category 2: Ribs 4.1m to 6m (£30 entry).
Category 3: Ribs 6.1m to 8m (£50 entry).
Category 4: Open class (any rib) (£50 entry).
£3000 worth of prizes, come on board and join the fun. Free berthing for the day at Sparkes Marina and we will hold a BBQ at Marina Jaks, £10 for Adult and £7.50 for children. We will also be enjoying an after party in the evening with music and drinks and everyone is welcome to stay on.
Spaces are limited to 25 Ribs in each category so entrants will be awarded on a first come first served basis. Ideally all participants will arrive via water but we do have some craning and slipway slots available for those coming by road.
For clarity as it is a race do participants have to carry extra safety equipment and is it expected competitors will have to wear crash helmets or is it a glorified cruise without race type gear required?
the full list of safety equipment is long, however most people will have alot of it already, apart from the personal clothing and helmets, and also a second kill switch,i wonder who the ood is,safety officer, scrutineers and so on,
To everybody interested. The emphasis is on having some fun on this day, its been a long time since anybody has organised a race open to all on the South coast. Our insurers have Ok'd the event and approved the application form.
All authorities have been alerted and the day will go ahead barring awful weather conditions.
It should also be a good evening in Marina Jaks which we're hoping everybody can attend.
We ask all entrants to be careful on race day to ensure the longevity of the race which we hope to last the weekend next year with further categories and heats in the existing ones.
· Participants must inform their insurance company of their inclusion in the race and must
ensure that both they and their rib are suitably insured. Participating vessels must have TPL
cover of at least £2,000,000
My insurance excludes racing. I suspect quite a few others does too.
Anyone have any idea how much it'd cost to add it for one day?

I know sailing clubs organise fun races regularly but I haven't seen the same in Powerboating.
I'd love to get behind it but it sounds a little too good to be true, is there any equipment required? is there any safety cover?
