The police can do no wrong, I'm sure it's the fault of where the other boat was moored. Or they were a suspected terrorist. if they weren't they are today and all actions by the police boat are now classified.

JV; Did you hear about the case on Clear Lake?

2 couples out on a sailboat at night, drifting and enjoying some wine; a speedboat piloted by an off-duty Sheriff's Deputy doing about 40 kts ran them over, killing one of the women. The investigation showed that the deputy had just left a bar, but his blood alcohol was not tested for another 6 hours (the next morning.) The on-duty sheriffs delivered him to his house.

The sailboat owner was tested and found to be under the legal limit for blood alcohol, but was charged with boating while intoxicated, failure to display nav lights (which he claimed were on, but were destroyed in the collision), and vehicular manslaughter.

The deputy was never charged with anything, as far as I know.

Trial ended either last year or earlier this year, with the sailboat owner being acquitted of all charges (I think.)
