Hi Speedie,

Did I meet you in Ringaskiddy at the start of the year?

Was your Medline 3 based in Balitimore for the Summer?

Regards,

Martin

Yea that's me ... sorry for not responding sooner ... I haven't been on since the 20th. I presume that the Zodiac is under warranty.

What's the update? any photos?

Martin

No photos at present. Are with Solicitors in Wales. Problem are numerous. Yes the boat is under warrant but that is not much use if it is out of the water for five or six months of the year. The problems are with cracks appearing in various locations in the boat together with problems with the wiring. It is at present in the hands of a Solicitor in Wales. How is your boat going? Have you had any problems with it.

Sorry to but in but I remember reading somewhere on this site(I think) that someoen had seen a hole in a display Zodiac through the gelcoat and they couldn't believe how thin the hull was - may be of use in your case?

Thanks for the information. Was able to look it up and found information which might be helpful. If you think of anything else or hear anything further I would be delighted to hear. Thanks again and Happy Christmas.

Overall, I'm delighted with the Zodiac and the Suzuki Engine is very quite and economical.

Have a good Christmas!

The slip in Baltimore is very steep - watch it! I learnt a valuable lesson there one summers afternoon. As we were retrieving the RIB from the water and towing it up the slip on the trailer - the winch strap attached to the U bolt on the bow snapped ... luckily, I had followed the best advice I ever received about launching and retrieving a RIB ... that is to always, always wrap the bow rope (painter) around the front of the trailer (as well as the strap).

This bit of advice - not only saved the RIB from potentially serious damage as it would have slid back down the slipway and perhaps also would have damaged other boats that were nearby in the water.

Of course, the most important thing was that there were at least 150 people sitting and watching in the sunshine drinking outside the two harbour pubs as the strap gave way .... imagine the cheer that would have gone up if they saw the RIB relaunching itself down the slip ...

Thankfully, alls well that ends well!

Both Scull and Crookhaven have very good slipways and are great eating, drinking, etc. spots. Goleen has a lovely inlet harbour, but is very tide dependant.

Have Fun!

Martin

and another Med II owner..

i to would be interested to hear the outcome. Had my boat since April, and had experienced stress cracks in the helmsman footwell and around the console. Looked around a MedIII in 2005 with severe stress cracks all over the boat.

Whilst on holiday in 2005 at exmouth a chap also had one with simular cracking problems i would guess that the customer services are quite used to dealing with upset customers.I had for one season a 4m yactline ,I know its totaly different.I found stress cracks at stern were the outboard bracket (Fibreglassed extension)mounted to the stern. They said it was normal however they had a batch that ended up spliting the panel the forms the back of the boat behind the rear bench seat. They did say they would be happy to repair it if it got worse .Mind you this was only after i approached them on their stand rather loudly at the london boat show 2005.I have found this to be very effective if you are polite firm and to the point.I think at these events the right people who make decissions are around.I know this does not help you and you probably would agree why on earth cant a large boat manufacturer like Zodiac build any style of boat they choose properly Good Luck

PeterR I was wondering if you knew who owned the boat you saw in 2005 with the cracks in it. Thanks for the information given and when taking on a big company all backup information is very useful.

Frank.

Sorry,No i had a mooring in the marina at Exmouth for the week August 2005 and it was one of those chats you have on the pontoons.Your only hope a long shot would be to phone the harbour master and ask if anyone still mores their .The ski club there may know him. When complaining about something have you heard this before.I,M REALLY SORRY SIR BUT WE,VE NEVER COME ACROSS THAT BEFORE.But what they should be saying is oh yes this seems to be a common problem due to bad design or build quality we,re sorry what can we do to satisfy you.

probably not connected

but..............

My brother in law has a Zodiac pro9 with a suzi 50 bought new
he had had the boat about a year and not much use les than 50 hours mainly on windermere took it in for its first service all ok

then a week later gets a call from the dealer saying that Zodiac had flagged up a "discrepency with the hull number" and that they had used a show hull which was not as strong as the normal hulls

they took it away and reffitted a new hull rewired including the acsessories he had fitted and new warranty

we thought nothing more about it until.....now and reading this thread

Hmmm

Andy

You are so right Peter, I get sick of dealers who say this. These people take us for thickos sometimes, it really gets me down. Fooking dealers want a bit more respect for their customers that actually know a thing or two about what they are talking about sometimes especially after the thousands of hard earned that gets spent, on what should be an enjoyable pastime that keeps these guys in business
