After laying down a few hundred miles on the boat this summer I've decided to convert to a single engine.

Besides the fact the twins are pricey to run they also make the rear of the boat feel very lardy.

I spoke to my local marine fabricator today and we will do it over the winter, once I've finished the stalking season at the end of October il whip the engines off, drain the fuel tank and get on with it.

Im not sure Billy, would like a Yam 115/130 maybe. If budget would stretch I wouldn't mind one of the newer two strokes.

Itl be a two stroke though.

I wouldn't have a problem with an ETEC but I'm about a million miles from anyone with any sort of knowledge about them.

Yes can understand you going that way. Myself I have bit the bullet and I'm going four stroke. Hope you pick the right one for you.

Theres no weight in the construction of your bow .. have you crunched the numbers of 2 60's vs a 130 four stroke ?

Four stroke?

At the minute my 60hp Bigfoots come in at 109kg each, a Yamaha 115/130 two stroke is around the 170kg mark. 48kg is quite a difference.

Granted there will be an aux on there too.

I'm no expert in the matter but I feel with an engine either side of the boats centreline, it gives the boat a heavy/numb kind of feel? Maybe its just the way the boat is.

Replacement engine now bought.

Went with a Suzuki DF140 in the end, 2003 with 275hrs.

Next job is to get the transom re jigged then get it turned over and have the nicks and scrapes in the gelcoat sorted then sprayed.

I will do.

The engine should be with me this week.

I need to take A frame off and redo the wiring, I did the wiring last year but I'm not happy with it.

I also need to fill holes in the transom incl the elephants trunk and make new holes for their replacements.

I've chopped the transom for the Suzuki, it took a bit of courage.

I also gave the plastics a machine polish with some Meguiars Fast Glass and gave it a coat of Carnuba wax. Can't get out of my car detailing ways.

Very nice engine, and a great project! If you go to DiscontinuedDecals.com - DiscontinuedDecals.com specializes in the Reproduction of Discontinued Decals
you can buy the latest style stickers for the Suzuki 140 for around £50 for the entire set. They deliver worldwide because I had a set of decals from them before and they were identical to the originals. Your mates will think you have a split new motor then

A bit of work has been going on.

Split the jockey in to two compartments, one will have the fuel filter, the other will have the batteries, VSR, isolator etc.

The transom knees tapered into a point, after further investigation it was found that the tip of the taper was the issue with the cracking.

Now cut shorter, you can also see the patch ground out where the under deck trunking will exit the deck.

New pipe to come through the floor for under deck trunking, this will carry all cables, pipes and wires for the engine.

The console also had the gauge holes and steering helm hole glassed and filled.

Just need to sand them flush tomorrow.

After sanding and finishing the transom and console we will flip the boat over to prep and spray the hull.
