Project or new rib?

Hello everyone! The time has finally come where I either need to buy a new Rib&engine or totally refurbish my existing 5.3m tornado. at an estimate I would like someone to say how much it would cost.

I have been quoted around £25k for a new rib (Bombard) with a 4 stroke honda.

The work that needs doing to my current rib..

New tubes
New stand alone centre console
Bolster seat
Built in fuel tank
Built in 80x40cm insulated fish box with hatch
Bow storage with hatch

Sanding down & re painting everything inside and outside to something thats not orange!

could somebody give me a rough estimate to the nearest couple of thousand please.

New honda 4 stroke 90hp is 9k fitted so there is a starting point.
New tubes have been quoted at around 4k. is that a fairly normal price for standard hypalon tubes?

look forward to your replies.

I think you know the answer to this is going to be "how much work are you going to do yourself?"
You've already priced the two biggest items. A custom tank is going to be around £500. The other bits and pieces.....depends on what bargains you can pick up. I'd ballpark around 18K if you're not paying for labour.
But that's a lot of work and I notice you're proposing to pay for getting the engine fitted so is the plan just to pay for the entire refurb?

Very sorry I totally forgot to say that I would only be doing the paint work. I could take the existing console out but I don't have any fibreglass skills to put a new one in etc.

If the total costs would be 5k or less compared to a new boat then I assume its definitely worth getting the new set up?

cheers

The other ....(3rd option) and more common response would be to buy a Good much newer/nearly new Bigger and Better model/spec'd used RIB... £25k is a healthy used boat budget...but will be limiting going new.
You wont pay 20% Vat for a start and won't loose substantial amounts of money on resale value in the short term.
IMO a used potentially larger better spec'd PREMIUM brand RIB would be better to use...more enjoyable....more capable....and very probably hold value better
.....and without the Wait for the New model OR the considerable work/time off the water and stress of a complete Re-furb...when you'll have (in the end) the same (if a bit shinier) as you started with.
Why not try a few other Models/sizes it MAY be an eye opener.

Thanks guys, I have taken on your opinions and have now decided to buy a new rib. I think doing up my existing rib would consume too much time and be a ball ache. thanks for your replies

You did not take a whole pile of convincing lol. With a budget like yours secondhand would be the way to go especially when you realistically tot up the actual time it will spend on the water in a twelve month period.sell yours as a project to someone willing to put in the labour and armed with cash have a shop around. Like everything else the looking will probably be the best bit.

Take a look on ribworld, humber have some real good deals on 5.0m stock boats you could probably have on the water for a lot less than 20k and a 5.5 which would probably be a bit over the 20k but the advertised prices are for stock boats so you may even get a better deal
Worth a peep at the website
