prosport bought the temptress moulds and modified them slightly after the first few hulls, just added a flange to increase the beam. allegedly the temptress was a rapier knock off which in turn, allegedly, shared dna with revenger.

And the Revenger was a Don Shead design.
I'm told by a VERY good and well informed source that Shead was never paid by Slogit for the design. Something about not being happy that it had a tendency to chine walk (or chime walk if your name is leeway), so Lorne Campbell was asked to tweek it, which he did by adding some reverse chines to it, which sorted the problem.
So there you go, how many Revengers sold? and god knows how many derivitives, and Shead never got a bean.
Slogits name is a swear word in the Shead houshold I would think.

Yes remember being in Lorne Campbell's office in Poole when he was working on it, and as JF said those were the reasons he stated and from then on knock of's r us were never ending...I wonder what the knock of boat was, maybe a rip of from the first revenger 27 hard boat's of which I believe there were 3 deck versions made, or maybe it's all Gordon's fault he had the first 27 rib Revenger (only kidding Gordon) was told the extra bit of glass over the front was part of the 10% by a ripper, aka Mr cod's boat and every other ripper...if so was only ever 1 revenger splashed and every other is a splash of a splash makes ye think

The Revenger line of boats has a very simular hull design running on from the 27 does this mean that Slogit made up with Don Shead and he did the work on the rest of the range up to present day?
Mr Cod in my last post re copy's I am not saying that your particular boat has suffered any undue problems from being a copy as I have read on a number of occasion's how happy you are with the handling of your boat

rapier was first revenger knockoff from a hard boat ,revenger ribs then followed with a 25 & 27 drawings by adam younger design 5/12/93 .all knockoffs have been taken from rapiers rather than revenger ribs

No, I don't think so. cutting a bit out, or adding a bit is pretty easy, I think any real changes, such as the progression to stepped hulls was done by Lorne, no contact with Shead as far as I know.
The 27 RIB was 25 hard boat hull, which as I say, was the original Shead creation for slogit back in the early 80's

How close does the design have to be to be considered a knock off?

It's not really a question of how close it is. If a doner was waxed up and a mould taken from it, that's it for me. But lets not go there again, we/I have done it to death.

well I hope Don Shed has done well out of all the rest of his design's, since uni in the 80's I have enjoyed watching his design's race, particularly cruiser class guys in the 25ft boats not to mention all the CUV's the legend (often retired) follett cars and the Plantec 40 plus many adventures on a XPS 34

I bought Tom Falla's boat earlier this year and after getting to grips with it, am highly delighted. We sailed it back from Guernsey without a hitch and have used it throughout the summer (if you can call it that) without any problems whatsoever. Great ride, great looks.. OK, it's not a Scorpion or a Cobra but we have no worries climbing on and off wondering if we are going to the damage beautiful white seats, 'cause there aren't any - it's completely black! A bit utilitarian but for us, that's a plus.
