Question about hiring a rib ??

Next July I'm in Cornwall for a week with the family but wont be able to take my sports boat - (unfortunately promised it to my brother - his turn - & accidentally we've both booked same weeks on holiday - w/c 11 July!).

SO I've enquired about hiring & been quoted £690 for 3 days for a 6m rib, inc. handover but not including fuel. Is this a normal price ? or would anyone who keeps their boat in that area (nr. Falmouth) consider beating this price? (I've got PB2 licence so
the RIB would be very well cared for). Cheers, Ivan

RIBase
I think that £230 a day sounds like good value.

Paid £100 inc fuel for a half day for a 5.5m Humber with 40hp Yamaha last summer out of Mylor Harbour. Thought that good value. I believe they were looking for £230 for the full day. Only a 20 litre tank though...soon ran out, literally, by Black Rock marker. Very interesting refuelling exercise in a good chop!

The company who were operating in Falmouth went out of business two seasons ago which is a shame as the Falmouth area is great. That price sees very good for bareboat charter/hire as most will be about starting from £300 a day without fuel. Sounds like a great deal speaking from an operators point of view. Still keen to hear if you get a better deal in high season. ALSO be careful borrowing a non coded RIB as you will have no insurance and the person chartering is acting against rules. If a friend lets you borrow their boat I would want to know about being covered on insurance. Good Luck Ian

It wasn't the newest, smartest, fastest boat around but it was fun, it was good value and the Fal Estuary is fantastic The boat was for sale last month so next seasons fun per £ might be more expensive. I've got the contact details of the boat hire place and boat owner if anyone needs them

Thanks

Thanks for the tips - think I will hire the RIB. On a longer day out do you carry extra
jerry-cans of fuel on board? Also got to persuade missus & 3 daughters its the way to go - none of them too keen at the moment !?! Cheers, Ivan

We only hired for the half day as we were on a mission deciding between Humber and Ribcraft (chose Ribcraft, but that's a different story). There was a spare can of fuel on board the boat...but...my recommendation would be don't run out!

While im more familiar with the Solent and Algarve, assuming this is a coded boat in good nick then I think you've got yourself a good price.

I hired a 7.8 Ribcraft (bareboat) for £500+ after vat and fuel at end of day. Quite reasonable considering it was brand new, fully kitted out and letting me play with it!!

I hired a 3 or 4 year old P22 a while back from hamble marina. It was coded and I think I paid £220 for the first day.

I asked them how much it was if I took it for a week and they quoted £160 per day which sounded like an excellent deal.

If anybody is interested I will look out their details.

Boat was absolutely immaculate unlike most P22's ! and suited my cruising budget with diesel instead of petrol !

Although I think that this is quite a good deal, I have to wander how some companies can charge over £300 per day for a £20 k boat but you can hire a £50 k car for about 80 quid !

the hire car will be very well 'utiilised' though - the boat is probably only working 100 days a year if it is busy.
