Racing with Merc 300xs

Does anyone have any experience racing with the the Mercury Optimax 300xs outboards. What would be a good spares list and is there anything in particular to look out for with regards pre-race servicing etc

tks

They were run briefly on the Honda boats when P1 took the series over before they opted for the cheaper Etecs. There is a much larger knowledge base for the 200's of which I have some experience, the compressor mountings were always giving problems and there is a trick with the oil monitoring that prevents the motors from shutting down. Regular gearbox oil changing is a must (every leg for the Venture Cup) and a spare gearbox or two wouldn't hurt. Keeping them dry and securing the engine covers is the only other thing I would worry about - Protex fasteners catchbolts are the best for the covers.
