cant speak for the 1000 island boat cruise , because i never got as far as the boat .
In all fairness to the other company i went with , the guy doing the talk was really good intersting and knowlegable . on the boat there were kids and and old people so i guess you have take it easy as its easy to fall out of a rib .
It should'nt be. Do you have any reason to think this would be the case?

these particular ribs have rows of forward facing bench seats . with a steel frame infront of each bench to hold on to . On the way back across the sound they did 2 fairly tight turns and i thought then i could see how a frail person or child could simply fall sideways as the boat leaned over and drop over the tube . That was the only manouvre they did that aproached anything like fun or fast
I've booked several trips over many years , never had the aggro that you did , and the trips have always been very enjoyable . In fact it was my first 1000 Islands trip many years ago that proved the clincher for me and made my get into ribbing ..
Good to hear you enjoyed Bern, They do generally put on a good tour.
Worth noting for any visitors, things can change so quick in the sound for these lads that sometimes they can suffer delays.

oh yes! many years ago a passenger suffered broken bones in this area after an enthusiastic blast of the throttle landed them heavy in a 20ft trough.

We used to go on the ribs every year with work at ramsey until they decided to go up river on a slow cruise instead. Every year that we went though there were never any problems - think we had a couple of cancellations due to weather, but as I recall one of those we were running a 5m swell anyhow so it was somewhat understandable!
Devils Hole thats it, thank you for that link/report Alex, I had the pleasure of passing through there in favourable conditions last month, the rock formation aound there is stunning, and as the report says once in there your comitted to follow through.
The first pic shows the Devils hole, which is my current screensaver. the other's from just round the corner.
Yes that's right, I always felt the same about Jack Sound too when there were overfalls thanks to a nice wind over tide effect. Once half way through, coming about wasn't an option as you were then committed, just gave a slightly twitchy feeling for about 2mins as we passed through hoping the engine wouldn't give out there and then.
