re-tube time

Hi all

Just getting ready for a re-tube on my ageing tornado, it is 17 years old so it has had a good life. As money does not grow on trees over here any advice or opinions on what items are luxuries or must have would be welcome. We mainly use it for day trips out and at the beach with the kids. Planning to take it to Ribcraft (unable to get a re-tube on the island) for the work but again any advise welcome.

Many thanks

Have you thought about Henshaws?

I found them very helpful and they are probably a little nearer to you.

Speak to Chris Hornidge at Henshaws Inflatables in Wincanton, will do a better figure for an older boat im sure and be able to squeeze you in for a prompt turnaround, have been very impressed with the work there

We had our Tornado re-tube about 3 years ago. There are a couple of people on here who could help you with it.
Our must have was a change from three to five chambers, hypalon fabric, life lines 2/3 of the way down both sides, four cleat type handles, flat rubbing strake and two large ware patches on top at the rear.

Should have gone for relief valves as we went for a dark colour but this can be changed and anchor guide up front (can’t think of the correct name).
Good luck with the project

Another vote for Henshaws - they managed to turn mine round in a little over 2 weeks in May last year which was a god send as the tubes had started to separate at the bow (boat was 12 years old). I needed it for a job in Plymouth and they saved my bacon !

Speak to Chris Hornidge...

Hi.

If you need local, then The Rib-shop on the hamble(who post on here) did a good job of re-tubing Into-the-blue on here's SR5.4 last year for a very good price.

There is also a company just East of Emsworth who refurbish liferafts, they provided a good quote with a slightly longer lead time. Pete7 knows who they are.

From what I've seen I'd also recommend either of the Dartmouth based guys, both also post on here.

Nasher.

Unfortunately I think Mesenger Mariner has gone pear shaped. Wanted them to test my life raft before Xmas, but the web site directs everyone to another firm in Portsmouth of the Eastern Road, who got the work instead.

re-tubing

I re-tubed a Tornado in 2005, I bought the hypalon tube to Eurocraft (eurocraft@airtime.co.uk) who did a perfect work - the new tube fitted the gRP hull absolutely perfectly - and I assembled it locally (on the Cote d'Azur) in my workshop.

Note : should english people have any kind of problem with GRP or pontoons when in vacation in the South of France, I know how to repair, build ... sometimes it could help to save the vacation !
