Re Tubing
Apologies if this is in the wrong location.
I have a chance to purchase a 6.4m project RIB however the tubes need to be replaced so,
could you give me some assistance with the following questions?
Does anyone have any ideas of what this may cost to re-tube?
What are the best type of tubes?
Can anyone suggest a company that will re-tube it, preferably within a reasonable distance of Leeds?
Many thanks Dean

People used to throw around a rough guide formula on here, I forget exactly what it was though, somewhere £600-800 per meter of boat?
XS Ribs have some guide costs here: https://www.ribretubes.co.uk/

Best advice is don't buy a boat that needs retubed unless its something exceptional. It will cost you substantially more than the boat will be worth when done, budget 800-1000 pm for hypalon tubes. Dave Cowal NWR&I probably your best bet or if he's too busy rib retubes are in Hull.

,,, and c £1000 per metre if you start adding custom bits ,,, which, with hands on experience is what you want in a re-tube [emoji6]

Re Tubing
Thanks all for the replies. It does not seem like a good idea to buy a project then after all. Must start saving hard for a good one.

Beamishken gave some good retube advice to avoid this route so why is Dave so busy or Nugent performing the wonderful hull reclaimations that he does (pre-retube)? Just trying to understand the reasoning.

The reason being folk who own boats for some time and have maintained them & know them inside out will spend money on their boats. Not because it makes financial sense but because they know their boats & engines and know they will keep them for a long time to get the benefit from them. I think you will find the boats Nugent does are done more as a labour of love than for financial return & they are a good advert for his business. I also suspect he does a lot of the work involved himself & brings down the retube costs that way. His boats are also exceptional when finished so he may recoup his money or even make a profit. I did say unless the boat is exceptional in some way that retubing isnt usually financially viable, there are the odd exception though

I kind of get it. Last year was given a knackered caravan with minor damp by my mother in law. Worth about £600-£700 I've spent nearly £1800 on renovation for a caravan I hope is worth a couple of grand. Over the winter it's been rewarding spending dozens if not hundreds of man hours and I've really enjoyed it but I don't think I would search out or take on a similar project again. However it's not for sale or will even be used personally. Thoughts of close friends, daughter or brother in law's families having good times in it keep me motivated.

Sorry for resurrecting this old thread.
I've been looking at getting new tubes for an Arctic 22 project I'm doing and was looking for some advice after getting an eye watering quote of nearly £1200 per metre from Henshaw for a bog standard tube, not including fitting.
Living up North, over the border and then some it's a bit difficult for me to get down to the south coast where most collar manufacturers seem to be based. Does anyone know of any in Scotland or any a bit further north?

No one in scotland makes tubes, one or two yards will install other makers tubes but if you want someone to make and install then your best option is Dave Cowal of north west ribs and inflatables in Chorley Lancashire.
He does post here on the forum too.
Personally I wouldnt want tubes made by one company and fitted by another just in case there is any quality issues as it may be difficult to determine who is responsible.

Thanks beamishken
I might stand corrected but I believe the fitting of the tubes to the Arctic 22 shouldn't be too much of a problem as they are the slide on type. Henshaw were just going to supply the tubes along with a couple of transom patches (to attach to the A frame I believe) and some glue.

May i ask, is it 1200 BRP per meter of boat or meter of Tube ?
I own a 7.7m if it was 10,000 to retube I would think that was reasonable ?

Ball park figure is £1k/m boat length. Your 7.7m would be around £8k depending on spec & blingy bits.
