Recording the details of a dumped/abandoned RIB?

Here is the scenario...

Down at a little known slipway that you like to use when the conditions are right there has been a dumped RIB, very tatty and clearly been used and abused and then left in the gorse bushes.

You want to record what details remain to pass on to the local Police and those nice people at Harbour Watch, so you download a form from them and print it out.

You clearly do not want something the size of War & Peace, but then too little info is going to be pointless.

How much detail is right, to expect of a good Samaritan who is giving up precious time on the water?

Most will remember all that apart from looking for the HIN anyway. If there's enough room left in the categories for anyone really attentive to put down more detail then they will.

An emailable form might get more response though.

Cheers for that. An email form should be doable, as that is the way the registration works so we should 'have the technology'.

With colour, we have tried to set the database up to search by primary colours - that way (as an example) we can look for all blue tubed RIBs that are between 5 and 6 meters that were reported lost in the last two years. Do you think that would be of use, or too confusing? IE turquoise is a blue and orange is a red.

I think orange should be in there as there's an awfully large number of orange ribs about. Would it be possible to add the more common non-primary colours like orange, grey and turquoise?

The problem is where to draw the boundary, take the HD Quicksilver SIBs as an example - some people say they are tomato red but others would say nearly orange.

So conceivably a boat could not show up in a search because it was described as one persons idea of a colour, when all we really need to do is exclude the blue or green ones.

Mind you, I have now confused myself.

Here's an idea-would it be possible to do just that?
