Hi Brian
the pic you posted is of the Cyclone which belongs to Byher boat services.
She was the first of the Ocean Dynamics ali' ribs to arrive here(about 18 months ago i think)
There are now three ocean dynamic ribs here the Cyclone the Wizard owned by the st marys boating assoc (on st marys) and the lightning (from st martins)
They are all jet driven powered by Scania 495hp diesels and licenced for 12 pax.
I think top wack is about 28-30 knots but the manouverability is fantastic with the jet.
The one problem encountered with them all is the stringy "bootlace" seaweed which chokes the jet intakes.Plus two of the three have had problems with overheating of the engine at full revs but i believe thats sorted now.
The wizard is light blue tubing with grey beltings and white wheelhouse and the lightning is green tubes and orangey wheelhouse.
There are little differences in the layout of the three: the Wizard having a slightly more forward wheelhouse and tank to try and get the trim better loaded.
They certainly are workhorses especially the one pictured who i believe has now done some 18000 miles.

Graham,

I've just bought a Redbay 6.5.....I boat off Northwest as well as Dublin area.....Good strong seaboat was very much on my needs list..I want a boat that will get me home if things blow up....especially if I'm out with the family.....tested a good few...got surprised wth some..came to decision that I wanted a Redbay and then went about model selection.

I found the people in Redbay very helpful. I also went to their ardbeg weekend in September and the feedback from other Redbay users was 100%.
Have you visited them?..It appears they often have secondhand boats for sale which they don't put on their Website.......I notice Seatrek got a new Redbay recently..Any idea where his previous boat went....

If you go for Parker who will provide local support?

Happy hunting...

Not a clue as regards price, but the bare boat price for a Redbay 8.4m with wraparound cabin is €37,400 so I would have a good guess at the €45-50k price bracket as a bareboat price.

Looking forward to seeing your Protector gingercoastie!! Having been for a spin in a Protector 35, I can say they certainly are quality boats!! If they are as cheap as you say they are, they will give plenty of Redbay owners food for thought!!

I am paying approx $180,000 NZD (£70,000) the boat, 2 engines and lots of extras but not including gps.vhf etc.
