Redbay Resto project

Quick heads up to a Redbay 7.4 restoration project I have recently had a look at .
On balance I have decided it’s not for me as I have not got the ability or desire to go with it.
It is on sale by auction at Silverlake car breakers in Botley Southampton ending Friday 1400.

7.4 Redbay with Yamaha 420 sti inboard and Hydradive leg.

Hull looks good and the tubes appear to hold air but are badly stained ,interior is ok though the rear bench seat is shot. Both hull and tubes are yellow.

Old plotter and navman depth both look poor. Icon vhf looks ok.

Wiring under console has been subject to water immersion .

The worst bit is the engine which looks like is has been under water at some point though I suspect it may have been rain water rather than sea water, the tide line marks is about half way up the block and the dip stick show oil right up to the top suggesting a sump full of water. Heavily corroded alternator and pulleys. Trim pump looks like it has been immersed as below the tide line.Starter probably under water now as several inches of water still in engine bay.
There are no keys for ignition.

It is sitting on what appears to be a caravan chassis with wooden blocks hold it up right.

I have no interest in the boat which is being sold on behalf of a local authority.

With shed load of work and some serious mechanical skills it could be a nice boat.
If anyone on here buys it keep us informed of progress.

Biffer where are you ?

I don't think that's too bad in reality the tubes looked good and even stripping and rebuilding the engine it was a cheap boat for someone handy assuming the buyers fees aren't too steep I'd guess the boat is 15k plus once fixed

I quit bidding at £3400, by the time you add fees, transport, storage and the rebuild I didnt feel there was any profit in.
Probably worthwhile if you planned to keep it and use it for a while.

I prefer to think of it as being careful, some robber wanted over 6k for an engine!

Haha there was a queue to buy it too! a new diesel engine package over 200hp Is north of 20k nowadays. The old engine and drive out of that redbay would break into 3k plus
That Makes the hull less than 4k which I think is a bargain for a good hull with decent tubes
