Redundancy Jobs - What are you up to

Well 2 months ago I was made redundant. I decided that I would do what all the youngsters do and have a gap year/few months. The only difference is I am doing it at the age of 54 lol

I am using the time to do lots of jobs around my house and garden and also at my Mums. Yesterday I decided to do a few boatey jobs and washed my little rib and an also refurbishing the trailer.

Next I am going to make a removable extension to the rear seat on the little rib so that her indoors has a little more space when we are both in the boat.

Now that more of winter is behind us than in front of us I was wondering what you are all up to on your boats. Lets all post our ideas to encourage each other

I do like a gap year!

I started work into a potentially siginificant career at 18 then gave it up at 19 to have a gap year fiddling with old motorbikes. Then I managed from 19 to 40 in a different career before the next gap year.... well it was actually two years fiddling with tractors and Land Rovers plus renovating a house. After that I worked for myself until I was 55... and then early retired to renovate another house before a permanent gap which I'm still on where mucking about in/with boats is one of my pleasures.

Yep you can't beat a bit of a gap... enjoy it.

Regarding boat jobs in some ways sadly I have none having bought a new SIB and OB over the last two years. Just a few twiddly little things like swapping over to electronic flares, a new radio and perhaps a PLB this season.

I miss the fiddling about with old smallcraft though. Like pulling the old wreck below out of a back garden and tinkering over a few months until it looked a little better.

Looking at your profile I see you are in East Anglia. I am near Ipswich. I was wondering where you are

>>> wondering where you are

About as far away from the sea as you can be in Cambridgeshire, right over by the Northants border. West Mersea is our launch place of choice for days out.

No 20 knots is with the tide with just me on board. I am however quite large

On these small boats I think you need quite and increase in hp to get 3 - 5 knots extra. I love this little boat and it is excellent for going out alone. I just feel she is a little slow as I can get about 42 knots out of my 17 foot bow rider with the 115 hp 2 stroke. Both however have their good points
