Removing mould marks

I have a slightly raised mould mark in the side of my console that was mounldd in to show where to cut hatch holes. I fitted smaller hatches and part of the mark still shows.
What is the easiest way of removing without losing the finish?
very fine wet/dry?

How steady a hand have you got? Osprey used to use a spoke shave to cut any moulding marks that stood proud off, then polish out with very fine wet and dry.
