Renovating a '96 Zodiac Pro II 550 (17.92')

Recently acquired this bad boy. I had the opportunity to finally get it in the water today and she rode like a dream. It has been sitting in a garage for 20 years too. It currently has a Mercury 75 on it which it great. I got it up to 38 mph today with two men on it.

Anyway, I decided this boat is super fun and I want to make some improvements!

Where can I buy parts to replace the jockey seat with a console and add t-top and bench? If I can get a bench to hide the fuel tank in that would be great.

What else can I do to add more seating or at least make seating easier?

Does this model use the slide on rail system tubes or are they glued on? After taking her out for a spin today I noticed that the starboard side of the tube has come loose from the hull.

Is there conduit under the console that runs to the back that I can add additional wires to? I would like to add a sound system and fuel gauge.

Would it be worth installing solar panels on the t-top to keep the battery charged?

How do I find the correct drain plugs for the back of the boat? Before I put the boat in the water it looked like there were flaps on the exterior of the drains. I thought they would keep the water out but once I splashed the boat some water began to come in. I assume I'm missing plugs of some sort.

Sorry, that's an absolute ton of questions but I'm pretty stoked about this boat. It's the first boat I've had that's actually all mine.

No. Do not have that up while you are driving the boat. It will get damaged and will put the glued attachment from the tubes. I have the same setup and learned the hard way. I was not even up on plane yet. If you need the benefit of shade, get a t-top.

Finding replacement seating can be difficult but it’s not impossible. There is occasionally used consoles and potential benches available on the second hand market or you could have a bench and/or jockey seat made though this can be expensive. I have never had to charge the battery in my rib- just once a year before summer so I would not bother with solar panels but I do think installing a t-top is a nice idea.

On a boat of that size the best way to maximize seating is with a bench at the back and 2 jockey seats before the console. You could try having 2 benches, one hind the other but this might make it difficult to move around the boat which is not good.

I’m definitely no expert but I did know a guy with a similar sized/age Zodiac RIB and the tubes could be slided off.

Nice boat!

He posted in another thread about this boat. I was able to answer all of his questions about this boat, as I own the same boat. Also, he is from the USA. We do not have the market for RIBs like the UK or Europe. So, finding used RIB parts is not that easy and they are rare. Here is the thread
