retro fit anchor windlass ?

Hi,

I am wondering if anybody has any experience in retro-fitting an electric windlass on a rib? On some occasions I use the anchor 3-4 times a day and I find it a big hassle to take the anchor from its box, unravel 40m or so of line and then chuck it overboard only to do it again a few hours later. I have the space to mount a windlass in the frontlocker and I have asked the guys at Scorpion to look into it, but I thought that maybe some of you might have a briliant idea and if so where to buy it. I'd appreciate any thoughts. thanks.

The problem is that using a winch to pull over the tubes is not a good idea.

All the RIBs I have seen with an anchor winch go through the bottom of the boat which involves mods to the hull itself.

You could use a roller over the bow but it involves a hard moulding attached to the tubes.

If you're anchoring for just brief periods, and if it's calm waters, why not consider anchoringing off the stern occasionally? You'd have more options for fitting a windlass, but of course you'd have other problems to balance out the potential benefits.

Have a look at this stunning Revenger - there is a great photo of their anchoring system.

Anchor Winch on RIB - Bowsprit over tubes

Hi Guys,

I had a Bowsprit Built over the Rib. I am going outside now, to take a couple of pics for you.

Back in a minute.

OK, I am back. Pics attached.

May be an alternative for you, depending on your boat type, budget etc.

I used a Southern Pacific Winch, however, there a myriad of Vertical Winch brands.

Best of Luck.

regards.

there is a scorpion in lymington with anchor through the bow..... Just like the revenger set up on the 31? looks good, but adding that weight up front should be tested 1st. A new anchor up front in my old 7.5m scorpion made it squirrel

We have twin diesels, even with 4 or 5 people on the front lounge it is still too light on the front so we should probably be okay.

I just need to find someone in Sydney to do it for us, that's why I am looking for lots of photos especially with detail of how it all works inside the rib. Our tubes are so wide that we have trouble holding the chain over the side without rubbing on the tubes.

Thanks for the lead, most appreciated.

Hello.
I am writing to you from Italy.
I saw how you mounted the windlass and would like to do it on my rib.
I can't understand how you mounted the pole (which holds the winch) on the boat, would you be so kind as to take pictures of it?
thanks.
Sorry for my english, I use google to translate ...
