Well I've thrown my money, time, home, work shop, materials in the pot and I don't give a rats arse whether I get any of it back, there again as most of you know I am in remission from throat cancer, as someone else pointed out you spend that on a night out, let not forget why we are doing this, cancer can get any of us, it doesn't care who you are, how fit you are or what you've been doing, this charity makes a horrible illness just a little more bearable, I won't forget the nurse who was trying to get my feeding tube back up my nose while I was swearing at her and generally being more grumpy than usual

Great stuff Biffer .
One question / thought though- there seems to be a mix currently of pledges to loan £40 and to donate £40. Both are great things to do, but what's donated & what loaned will need to be tracked. Wouldn't want there to be any falling out over this worthy project.

Whoever wants there money back can have it, this project is a gamble but I'm fairly sure it will make enough to return there funds, as suggested use your RIBnet name and Macmillan then we can identify any future claim for returned funds, I'm thinking of leaving this account dormant after this we could use it as a RIBnet Xmas fund, put in what you like and get it back when you want it or on one of our jollys.

I haven't seen the rib yet but the great news is that it's a Military Avon Searider SR5.4, one of the later builds with a mk2 fisheries console and the low a frame with the folding nav light
Apparently I have a choice of two and I'm hoping to see some pics later this week. There's no trailer or engine however both hulls are not antifouled.
The idea is that we do a Ribnet restoration and then auction it for our charity to the highest bidder.
This is a continuation from our Round the Isle of Wight for Macmillan and has nothing to do with my new Osprey venture.
Everyone is welcome to help out with this and I hope you all get involved in one way or another

I guess the private boat collector who very generously donated the rib in the first place will be very keen that his donation is used in the most effective way to raise money for the MacMillan Nurses, I agree with Whisper that building a complete rib and auctioning it off is the best way to go.

I am happy to donate my £40 contribution through the account Biffer as set up, if its good enough for Biffer its good enough for me
I was diagnosed with bowel cancer last year, following radio & chemotherapy I had an operation the remove the tumour last October, followed by another 6 mths of chemo from December till June. Along with Biffer, I too don't give a rats arse if I ever see my £40 again, money dont mean nowt when you have been through this crap! it was a stomach drain I had fed up my nose, the two young nurses who struggled to put that in will stay in my minds eye forever. luckily for me, up to now I haven't needed the MacMillan Nurses help, but as Biffer says, none of us know whats round the corner
on a much more positive note, I'm in the process of re-furbing a SR4, along with some very professional help as I'm not up to it yet, so I do know how much these things can cost. for sure this project wont work without some very generous help, in terms of time or money or both.
good on Whisper for thinking of it in the first place, and good on everyone else who does whatever they can to help
lets just hope it does the business and raises loads of dosh for MacMillan

You're less grumpy than you used to be mate!!! (And a bit thinner!) Wink wink.
The big C had a go at two of my mates (biff & Kev) last year and took my mum this year.
I'm in, Away the weekend but will sort it early next week.

Nationwide doesn't recognise either the sort code or the account number
I'll try again tomorrow. Anyway, don't want it back; like the sound of a RIBNET social.

I think the best way to handle the donations /loans is once everybody is paid back who wishes to be paid back the rest is donated via just giving to Macmillan.
Any idea of big party with the surplus does not sit well with myself.
As business I would rather donate a few places on a Course that you can auction on here...rather give hard cash...

I agree, I'm willing to loan not donate the £40, as I've already donated a significant sum. Party the surplus... Be careful not to turn it into a paid jolly... I Remember "round Ireland" and a certain chap getting lambasted for similar.

Happy to donate rather than lend but not keen on the party idea with the surplus if any. Unless of course its going to be in Ireland :-)

Right then, like Round Isle of Wight this has to be completely credible. So no more talk of loans or parties, 100% of any donation is going to Macmillan Cancer Support via our Justgiving page:
http://www.justgiving.com/rib4macmil..._page_creation
We are attracting a lot of sponsors, one has even shared our thread on all their social networking:
https://www.facebook.com/Icomukfanpage
http://www.linkedin.com/company/icom-uk-ltd
https://twitter.com/icom_uk
http://icomuk.wordpress.com/
https://plus.google.com/108949095434700003867/posts
So this is no longer just Ribnet now as it now has a much wider audience that is being viewed via this thread.
If you would like to donate some money direct to Macmillan and get your message on here then please use our justgiving page
If you would like to donate some money so that we can approach a Marine dealer or private seller then Biffer has very kindly set up an account for you to do just that. If an engine and trailer is donated in the mean time then 100% of this money will go to into our just giving account.
Any parts that are donated and not used will be auctioned off and the money will go direct to Macmillan.
Please be mindful that potential sponsors are reading this and sharing this thread with their customers. In fact this thread should really be separated and we need to get back on track.
If we all pull this off (which we will) then I'll sort a party out to celebrate what we have accomplished and the rib and accounts will all be there for you to see
We can do this, it's what we do best
Right then let's build this boat

Here's Biffer's website: Custom RIB
I’ll bring the rib down on the Saturday for 10am so if you are coming PM me and I’ll send you the address.
We will be removing the console and working on cleaning and repairing the gelcoat.
