We need to use whatever method is going to generate the most money.

Southampton boat show would be ideal for an auction or £50 a go raffle tickets. I guess they were not interested in donating a stand.

I'm not convinced sealed bids will generate a sufficiently high price.

I do loads of auctions but must admit I don't like sealed bids after losing a property to some estate agent and builder doing skulduggery together, I don't really mind where it gets sold as truly I'm only interested in getting it done right, I'll go with whatever you lot want.

Just as a matter of interest what would you guys in the know recommend as a guide price for the MacRib, based purely on the sum of it's parts/hours of labour, rather than including any 'emotional' aspect in the price?

It's always possible to have a reserve price in an ebay auction, of course.

How about its advertised on every possible place going (all the usual online places ) , maybe trade members can stick something on thier FB pages etc .

Maybe see if some of the PB/ boaty mags will carry a simple ad for it pointing it towards ebay .

Individuals can get it on thier FB page - pointing to the Macrib FB page or direct to the ebay thingy ?

My vote is for a good old school 1p auction with no reserve. Get it out there in the local media beforehand and it'll find its own value.

If it goes for a quid so be it, that'll generate as much publicity to Macmillan as it would selling for £20k. In theory the same could happen on sealed bids so its no different just means everybody can see it and it has a far bigger audience platform.

You can't take emotion out of the hours, as a trade person you'll need a small mortgage for the hours that this thing cost to renovate.
A bunch of idiots getting together and doing something like this with no thought of gain is worth more than the boat.
To be clear this boat is unique and far better than when it was first built, all the little faults of the original have been updated, on top of that it has everything needed to go boating.
Speaking for myself, on one hand, trade, on the other someone who likes all things unusual, just look at my other stuff, I'd probably put my hand in my pocket to the sum of around £16k, maybe more

I'm not in the know but based on basic maths:

She must have had well over 200 hours of time spent on her, £40 per hour would be cheap, so we must be up to 8k in labour alone, plus the tubes, engine, trailer, electrics, safety gear, gelcoat etc.

Got to have cost 16k to 18k in parts and labour to build.

That's good. Two guys in the know agree on a 'ball-park' figure without reference to each other.

I totally understand what you mean about the emotional value Biff, I was just trying to get a figure that we could work with for now as a 'guide' for those like me with no real reference point regardiing value.

It really wouldn't suprise me if someone placed an 'emotional' amount of (say) £4k on top of the £16K, just because of what the whole project represents and the cause it's supporting.

All in addition to the fact that they'll own a fabulous boat.

I would not class myself "in the know" i'm just a punter that has bought his own rib, and keeps an eye on the for sale adverts.

It was interesting to see Biff's reply (as he is "in the know") after posting mine and how close the figures were.

Another way of looking at it would be what is the cost of buying a new zodiac millpro 5.4 and then paying for it to be upgraded to a similar standard to the macrib. Whatever way you look at it Macrib has got to be worth £15k to £20k minimum.
