Apparently there is a way to use Ebay, without paying fees for charities.

Biff, did you knock that clamp up yourself, or buy it off the shelf somewhere? I've had a look round the bay and can only find stainless clamps whipped out of old cars; MG Roadsters, Triumph GT6, etc!

If you bought it off the shelf, can you give me a clue?

No I made it. Been doing them like that for year. The battery won't move once it's bolted in there. Done more on the back end and the same guys who donated the clock have come up with the anchor rope chain and another anchor. He also has some shorter hydro tubes for the steering. I wish I could tell you who they are but they know it's a good cause
I'm only posting all this for the record. I know it's anal posting every bit but I do it at tea times

Biff, I'm surprised you've had time for tea today. Great work! Can I put some of your photos on Twitter?
Awesome screen Ed, can't wait to see it up close.

Hi Helen,

You can also have anything from the facebook page if you want to do the twitter thing, never been on there myself.

Good work

Sealed bids can be submitted in advance - you just need a trusted person not to open the bid before the close.

Can't see anything unethical about that.
Perfectly doable. However one of the local auction houses here runs its auctions using a different model from ebay - which might actually be better for something where there are people present too. If anyone bids in the last 10 minutes it extends the deadline by ten minutes - which stops 'sniping' - and should maximise value.

you can set a reserve on sealed bids too.

indeed eBay UK : eBay For Charity - I think ebay need to handle the payment to charity (but will add gift aid) to get complete fees waiver. Does that mean a several thousand pound paypal transaction though? that might be tricky - many paypal accounts have a limit.
