Rib 4 Macmillan

More great news

I have been in conversations with a private boat collector who would like to remain anonymous.

He has very generously offered to donate one of his ribs to our Macmillan Cancer Support fundraising cause. This rib is a gift to us to raise enough money to push us over the £10,000 threshold.

I haven't seen the rib yet but the great news is that it's a Military Avon Searider SR5.4, one of the later builds with a mk2 fisheries console and the low a frame with the folding nav light

Apparently I have a choice of two and I'm hoping to see some pics later this week. There's no trailer or engine however both hulls are not antifouled.

The idea is that we do a Ribnet restoration and then auction it for our charity to the highest bidder.

This is a continuation from our Round the Isle of Wight for Macmillan and has nothing to do with my new Osprey venture.

Everyone is welcome to help out with this and I hope you all get involved in one way or another

Sounds very interesting!

So does the rib stay at your place, then rib netters come over and do there bit towards the restoration (laborious work) or is there going to be a donation fund that you use to restore the boat?

Not far from you so would love to gain some experience in helping!!

Henry

Well done, you have been a busy Whisper....how do you fit it all in?

how do you see us all getting involved - apart from bidding for the completed SR?

Nice one!

Obviously it depends where the boat is (or is going) but if you need any help lifting, putting onto transport, storing, etc. I would be happy to offer (donate) those facilities at KB in Portsmouth.

Quite happy to bring my tent/caravan to wherever for a weekend and supply my labour in return for the knowledge I will gain from more experienced RIB'ers.

Great news! Tonight I have received the pics of the two Searider's and and I have made the choice on behalf of all of us.

I have chosen the most original one of the two so that it can be restored to the best original condition.

I am not allowed to post the pics as it does give it's location away, so I'll be posting pics as soon as it's delivered which will hopefully be this sunday.

When I get it we can make a list of the work required and make a plan from there.

Exciting stuff this and the sky's the limit so time to pull out all the stops with this one and aim high

I have thanked him so much and he said:

"No need to thank me, I'm glad to be part of this and am very excited at what can be done".

What a Legend

Agreed. Legend. But what is the end aim? 70's pornstar original, or a real Ribnet jockey special ready for taking on the waves? Must be the latter. Surely we can blag a suspension seat from someone for the cause. Or a broken one that some genius like biffer can fix?!

I think it's one of the later ones, probably 1998-2001 ish ???

It has a grey hull, twin trunks, fisheries console, big old a-frame and all that....

As I say, we need to aim high with this one
