RIB Covers

I am looking to get a cover for my Humber 6m Destroyer. Went to my local sailmakers up in Oban and got a quote for £500-650 WITHOUT the VAT. Strikes me as VERY expensive however clearly the advantage is I can take the boat there and get it fitted properly. Does anyone out there have experience of using companies online and measuring the RIB yourself and sending them the measurements, be interested to hear of good or bad experiences and any contacts you can provide.

The simplest way to measure is to get a big sheet of polythene, lay it roughly in place over your boat, then spend some time with scissors and tape making it fit. Mark where you want fixings. Take it to the sailmakers as the pattern for your cover. That's what I did and it saved me a couple of hundred quid (still wasn't desperately cheap, but lasted very well)

I got a 3m RIB cover from this place:

http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/speedwellstar

Fits my SR4 perfect, the lad was really helpful too.
Apparently the 3m cover takes into account having a console that stands proud of the tubes, mine doesn't so fits perfect.

If you've still got that sheet of polythene, I'm looking for a cover for my Searider.

I've just had a great console cover made by Sally at Jessail, she's based in Ardrossan but if its a standard 6m Destroyer she could easily measure one at Largs and make you the cover.

Thanks for that, likewise am thinking the ebay job looks to good to be missed for the all over cover. Was also thinking of getting a cover for the console/seats which does need to be made to measure.. Do you have any contact details for the Dunfermline chap?
