I have a standard domestic up and over door and my 5m tornado with a home made A frame fits in just! I had it made up to just the correct height, however I do need to take the alround white nav light lens off and fold the stainless steel whip antenne down, that's easy as it came with a quick release mechanism.

I have a electric aluminium roller door on mine, 3m wide and about 2m high. Think its called thermaglide. The garage takes the rib no problem (6.5m x 4m) but I have to tilt the boat to get the a frame in door.

Up here in Glasgow, a 14 tonner is less than half of that price, including the hammer ...even with transport included £1000 for 2 days is a lot ..... I think I know where my next depot is going to open up

Yeah, I thought it a bit trumpy also, but as DHD said, if they broke out and loaded 600 tonnes in two days they were worth the money.

Ah .. thats a bit more like it ... Just for all you chaps wanting to know, the cost of hiring hardware by and large hasnt gone up in 15 years !!, (unless you go to a well known 3 lettered high street chain) its the labour element pushing up the prices. What other industry could you say that about *moans*

Loads of new laptops around now for sub £300. 5 years ago, they would start at double that figure.

Mobile phones - say no more

Furniture
Sofas, chairs etc. are cheaper now than they were 10 years ago

Cars
New small cars for around £6k - same as back in 1992.

Clothes
Dirt cheap in real terms, compared with 15 years ago.

Music
CDs now cost less than they did 15 years ago

etc.

I do sympathise with the plant boys though - a hard game to make decent money in.

I know what you are saying, although I was looking more at hire rates though, the cost of buying plant actually is increasing , but the rates to hire it aren't keeping pace, despite reasonably healthy demand.

As far as specific industries are concerened, say electronics, yes mass market goods have become cheaper as demand and competition has multiplied massively, production costs have fallen here though, which has helped this happen which is not the same with plant. Per pound of investment, plant yield is falling in otherwords. Depending on which plant sector you look at, some areas are worse/better than others. I hired a power drill a couple of weeks ago for a week and I ended up paying more for it than a 2 tonne digger purchase cost £350 versus £14000 for the digger. Whilst the numbers of kit in circulation is increasing, its nothing like the explosion in say the numbers of computers, or mobiles, so I dont think thats a fair comparison, also, the technology has become far more advanced, to dig a hole in the ground today, was just the same 15 years ago, and the achine has not changed much either

Presumbaly the digger either is in use a lot more (say 80% utilisation) when most charter ribs are probably <25%. Do they depreciate at the same rate?
