RIBase
Or craftinsure.com

Some of the small print in the Porthcawl policy docs didn't look suitable for a trailered boat.

I'm with Porthcawl.

Nos, are you referring to the fact that the trailer has to be chained to an un-movable object the whole time?

I have 4.7 m + 50hp, valued at £8,500 - 5 years no claims and just had renewal full comp (stored at home on trailer) £3 million public liability, waterskiing + toys quote of just under £300. Did a quick internet search and got quote of £196. Went back to my broker who put me on hold for 1 minute and then said they would match it. So 33% discount. Me thinks there is a bit of profit in this insurance business. Not sure if you want to know my broker! The internet site I got cheap comparison from is linked to Avon's website. It would be interesting to know what others pay....

Yes. Somewhat impractical if it's hitched to the car-and even more so at launch sites where you have to split the car and trailer.

Dare I dip in given what I do ? - put pressure on your broker & premium will come down - Generally look to use Porthcawl / Mardon ( broker anyway ) or navigators & general . Brokers will earn about 10% of premium - so £30 for maybe an hour to set it up & should help deal with any claims . Not much compared to our solicitor freinds. I paid £200 ish on a new avon with a 50 yam worth about 11500 k .No silly ' must belocked to anything' wording.

I am of course happy to help if anyone wants me to quote ( shameless of me ! )

Send a message via Yahoo to Noddy
try www.boatinsure.co.uk. By far the cheapest quote I could get.

Martyn

I've said it before, and I'll say this again......

Beware of the small print on the craftinsure policy - particularly for larger engined boats as there's a clause: "The boats design speed does not exceed 45 Knots (50 mph)"

Just had my renewal through from Curtis Marine Insurance http://www.curtismarine.co.uk now bear in mind that this is a bespoke policy for 12 months in commission (no winter lay-up) with full offshore (River Elbe to La Rochelle) cover (you normally only get 12-mile-coastal-limit) with use as race safety boat covered as well as pleasure and an excess of £150.... premium £284.

Underwritten by Haven Knox-Johnston.
