Rib insurance
I am trying to get aquaote for my rib and I have been asked what is its max speed.
It is a 4.9m Valiant with a 60 ETEC what max speed can I expect to get?
Is it normal that the rib insurance covers the rib while towing?

If you can get past 30knots, your premium might increase.

That varies company to company. Some will cover the rib for loss. Some will cover the rib for loss but apply an excess. Some will cover the rib for only third party loss. Most wont cover the trailer but your car insurance will cover it for third pary liability. You do need to read all the small print. It's been discussed a few times so it's worth doing a search.

I was told that any thing over 50 knts was regarded as a racing speed
so its like putting words in your mouth
Of course my rib only dose 49 knts and the quote falls accordingly
I changed from Mardon to Porthcawl

insurance
I would also support Porthcawl as they have matched other quotes on 50knot rib

I would say in the range of 32knt or 37mph max.
I have found Porthcawl insurance to be very reasonable also.

I've just had a trawl through the Irish market for rib insurance - magic speed seemed to be 40. Obviously no-one knows exactly how fast your kit is, so any realistic figure will be accepted - find out where the penalties kick in!
I may be wrong about this, but my understanding about the trailer is that the rib policy covers the actual rib and trailer under tow, but your car policy covers any third party damage or injury - so check the car policy - I've seen what a "loose cannon" SIB can do. Luckily, sheep are cheap......
Allianz Direct where cheap, if a bit ditzy - and their liability cover was much lower (by over a million euro) than the others. General advice seems to be 2.5 mil cover, us being so fond of the High Court and that.

I allways thought it was the manufactures max design speed that insurance companys are interested in.

Try Richard Walton-Gould at WG Insurance 01737 557020.
Always been very cheap and beaten Porthcawl and Mardon for me.

Trying to swap cover to a new boat on Porthcawls online set-up is a bit of a drag.

Incidentally, found this yesterday-and they apparently do cover while in transit. http://www.divinginsuranceuk.com/boats.htm
I'm waiting for a quote from them.
