Rib insurance
My latest premium landed on my doormat the other day, and it prompted me to do a bit of research.
I found this thread and tried them.
My current premium is £342 and the new agents can do it for £219. A bit of a saving. But you never know how good it is until you put in a claim.
Nick.

I have not used Mardon but had a couple of quotes, I still use Porthcawl Ins and they have been very good for last four years, but I suppose it all depnds when a claim is made at the end of the day. People at Porthcawl always helpful and competative too. Hope this helps

We changed from Marden and now use Euro Marine Services.
http://www.euromarine-ltd.com/
They gave the same cover for less money may well be worth a call to them for a quote.
All the best

Nobody could match my Porthcawl insurance renewal, I tried everyone! The nearest was £50 higher

Hi
I have used Euromarine for the last 5 years and find them very good both in terms of the premium and there service. I had asked for a quote from Pothcawl last month and there service was very attentive but there quote was £10 dearer. I suppose the real cost is when you have to make a claim and thankfully I have not done so and would like to kept it that way.
Happy ribbing
J

Cancel that, it seems an error was made regarding the top speed of my boat, (about 35 knots).
If the speed is over 30 knots, the premium goes up to £400.
Ho hum.
Nick.

Our policy is for this. It's with Haven Knox Johnston and was taken out through Colin Curtis ( http://www.curtismarine.co.uk/). We have compared with other insurers and found them the most competitive for our needs - in commission all year round and full continental cover including the 'open sea' bits (e.g. when going across the channel) which many policies do not cover, as they do not provide cover beyond 12 miles offshore (IIRC). You also need to be careful about top speed (as Nik has found out!) - remember it's design speed, not necessarily actual speed achieved with your particular engine choice! Our policy also allows us to act as a safety boat. HTH.

Who underwrites their policies these days? There was a case a couple of years ago of one of their policies not paying out for a total loss. A £50 saving could be false economy.

I use Mardon they seem fine and no layup period but my boat is dry stored
So I call them and get them to send me a fax if I go away over night etc or leave the rib on a mooring, pontoon etc, so I have it in writing on their letter headed paper to say it is ok where I leave it, they normally send a hard copy in the post too
They also give you a credit card size insurance note for you to keep and show if required which is handy

Im also with Mardon and found the same, I have actually got them to note on my policy docs that I will from time to time leave the boat on a swinging mooring and that I will take the boat out from inshore waters to areas such as the Scilly Isles.

Allso mardon, Extended cruising grounds, no lay up periods, and as bedajim says, notify them of any changes which may effect your cover.new moorings,
storage location, night use,cruising limits,
