RIB Insurance
Its coming up to that time of year where I need to renew my boat insurance.
Previously insured the SIB on a 3rd party basis.
Now that I have a RIB, should I upgrade to a better insurance i.e. fully comprehensive, if so, what companies are good, and what companies gave you hassle.
Thanks in advance for your replies.

Most marine insurers are pretty good at paying out, I use Noble Marime, have used Towergate in the past but if you need to cancel a policy early they won't refund you which is bordering on dishonest.

Its not that they are dishonest, you have entered into a contract for insurance for 12 months, unless it is explicitly stated in the T's & C's that they will refund if you cancel, then they will not give you a refund, it is yor choice to cancel not theirs !!

I use Towergate for my Rib and camera equipment. They have been very competitive on price. I used to use Noble Marine for all my boats, but this year they were a third more compared to others.

If you have had a claim they don't have to refund you.
If you pay by DD and haven't had a claim, just stop your DD, albeit there maybe a cancellation fee to pay.
If you have over paid on a DD, go to Direct Debit and make a claim under the DD guarantee for a refund.
If there has been no claim, and the premium was paid for 12 months in advance and they won't refund the part due less a reasonable admin fee, tell them you are off to the FSA, as they can't do that.

I had a big boat insured with GJW and sold it as I went back to cat sailing, GJW don't do small boats so they refunded me for the time remaining, I insured the cat with Towergate and after two months injured my arm and had to sell it, Towergate said they would not refund me and as I'd sold the bot they could not even transfer the policy even when I said I was looking at a RIB.
I insured my first RIB with Noble, when I changed to my big one there was a gap and they refunded my the remainder, I then took out a now policy for the new boat.
So MY experience of Towergate has been pretty poor and I said to to stroppy cow on the phone that I would never recomend them to anyone so I'm keeping my word. I'm sure there are people out there that have received poor service form companies I'd recommend.

I use these as recommended by willk on an old thread, you pay monthly and if you want to cancel just cancel your direct debit on there website.

I have used all sorts over the years and dealt with most for clients boats....
Towergate are becoming/ have become rather 'corporate' over the years to the point where service is not great unless you are a commercial client or your boat is worth millions.
GJW have been good to me for big commerical clients ( building big Aluminium cats etc )
Mardon were OK for me ( but I never needed to claim) .
Porthcawl have been ace on the only claim I have needed to make, maybe not the cheapest but 1st rate service ( for me) , and for my SIB craftinsure suited me as its a simple policy for a simple ( cheapish) boat.

I will not turn it into a football post, but I dont think you will be back in prem for a few years, you have a lot of building to do (on the team that is).
as for ribs, how often do you get to use yours and where do you go. send us a pm if you want, we will keep it on a boating theme, as we both know, if it goes on to football neither of us will change, and i respect that
