RIB manufacturers adverts
I know we have been here before but the latest addition of RIB international has Cobra ribs on page 57 with a half page ad for their boat with five people on board off the needles with not one lifejacket being worn. Sorry to say Cobra but this sets an appalling standard. Any one else on my wave length?

I know what your saying but I don't think RIB manufacturers advertising their boat with people aboard wearing lifejackets or not wearing em makes any difference to what others do.
The sort of people who do notice it are the ones already wearing jackets when afloat.

Actually, I was impressed that the front cover shot showed both the crew members togged out in LJs.

I agree, if there was a car ad that showed somebody driving with a whisky bottle in one hand the ASA would go into overdrive!

And I thought it was only me, that these sort of issues got to.
During the summer thare was an issue with about 5 ribs in the 5 -10m range reviewed and whilst they loved the styling and the stereo systems blah blah, not one of them had a compass fitted! Good god, a Rib/boat without a compass as basic equipment, now that ought to be illegal.
Rant over, Merry Christmas and I hope everyone has a safe and healthy 2009
Here's to a better summer ..........

It'd be interesting to see how many of them could get you from A to B with a chart and a compass, nothing else....

One point to note ( & I'm not condoning not wearing a lifejacket) that these shots all seem to have been taken in the presence of at least one other camera/ safety boat . OK it wont help if you end up out cold in the water , but there 'should' be second boat to assist if it all goes wrong .
Another point about the cobra add - can anyone tell how I can get 5 scantily clad young girls on my boat please ?

Or try the Pompey C***o approach...
Find some particularly dim specimens then tell them they've won a prize of 'a day out powerboating' but give them an address they can't find if they fall below a certain level of stupidity...

Admittedly they didn't look too bad (ask Jimbo-he was letching) but to have the kind of IQ that thinks you go to Camber Slipway for a day on a big powerboat takes a bit of a stretch of the imagination unless you like the smell of fish

Never been in fog then...or out of sight of land?
Let me put it this way. If all your electronics fail when you can't see land, will you be as much of a troll when the RNLI have to come and get you because you're halfway to Cherbourg without fuel?

I remember them! They were asking us if we knew where their free powerboat ride left from, and we were quite close to taking them out, iirc...

When the viz is less than a boats length, you'll take info for all sources inc. compass and VHF. A rib without a compass looks as wrong as one with a stereo and soppy speakers.
