Rib measurements in general

Are the advertised lenghts ie 7.5 measured as the overhaul length ie including tube overhang front and rear or as per racing measurements ie vertical line down from front of tube to the verical line down from the last edge of the transom-length being distance in between?.Nic
Also is the width including tubes ? Thanks

Advertised length will generally be including tubes, and will be rather more than the racing length. The amount of tube overhang varies between manufacturers and isn't necessarily a reliable indication of hull length.

Adding further confusion are some of the model designations that would appear to relate to length, but are often subject to interpretation - often to make the boat seem bigger than it is, but not always!

Welcome to Ribnet!

Also with hull measurements you have the cone overhang as well. For example my old Searider the cone tips touched the back wall before the engine did. With the Humber I've had to put carpet on the back wall to protect the paint on the engine case.......

Most will quote both interior & exterior dimensions on the spec. sheets. I guess if it's class deciding racing dimensions you are concerned with, i'm sure the likes of Cookee will be along later to enlighten us!

Being as you asked .............. the racing measurement doesn't take account of the tubes and measures from the bottom of the transom not the top, so quite a lot shorter than a manufacturer's measurement.

It does take into account the tubes at the bow. Hang on. I'll try to find the drawing . . .
