RIB painting query

Hi all,

Apologies if these questions have been asked a million times!

I have a circa 80's Ribtec 585 that has been sitting for the last year on a hard standing. Suffice to say that the tubes are looking pretty shabby.

I'm not sure if the tubes are PVC or Hypalon and I've read that you mustn't use Hypalon paint on PVC. Is there a way of determining what material they are made of?

I'm planning on repainting the tubes in the very near future. Can anyone recommend a suitable product and the best practice for this? I'd also like to repaint the console and jockey seat. Again any recommendations would be gratefully received!

One last question (promise)! The vinyl seat covers have faded badly. Rather than re-upholster, can I re paint them?

Many thanks in advance!

C

Before you let any paint near your tubes, have a proper go at cleaning them, you might be surprised, especially if they turn out to be Hypalon. Once you've painted them, you're stuck with it.

Thanks Dave. Rookie question, but is it safe to use a standard car wash detergent and a stiff brush?

Careful with the scouring pad, use a soft one or the tubes will scratch. When you've got them clean, treat the tubes with 303 protectant (Google it)

Rib Shop also sell paint for tubes if you decide on that route.
