Speaking to Boatworld at the show, a bit of good news on the Elling front. After the Elling factory in Mariupol destroyed, they advised the owners are in the process of setting up a new facility and hope to recommence production early next year. Boatworld are now taking pre orders expected March 23…..not surprisingly costs seem to have escalated.

For the op, agree with PD, an Elling would be a good fishing option. Also, as a kayaker, have you considered a K-boat?
Basically a long narrow sib, very efficient, lightweight and good speed with small circa 6hp motors. Some good value Boatworld versions, but other makes also available. Arguably not as stable as a wider sib for use in a beam sea but coming from a kayaking background may not be a concern.

PS: For all the KB350 fans there’s a 390 version in the pipeline!

Good news that they are getting back in business despite all the sh1t that's still going on.
Look forward to seeing the KB390 specs, hopefully they have beefed up the transom to take a 15/20 efi.

Sorry for the late reply, we'd been away for a few days and only got back a short while ago.
I think from reading a lot since my initial post, I'm going to try and get hold of a kb350 and a tohatsu 9.8 2 stroke.
My kayak is now up for sale, so as soon as that's gone I can purchase the motor.
In the meantime I'll keep an eye out for a used Elling kb350, although Im aware I may have to buy new if no-one is selling one.
Thanks so much for all the input, it really helped.

I think there is a kb350 in the for sale section of the forum at the moment. No connection to me!

Reckon that could be Fenlander’s old Elling. [emoji106]
Agree, go really well with the 9.8 two strokes and certainly a sweet spot for us as a super lightweight rig, but also wouldn’t automatically write off a 6hp. It’s a lightweight efficient hull which will plane at well under 10 knots, and one up plus a bit of kit should still be capable of 13/14 knots.

Did a bit of searching last night and found some info (albeit in Ukrainian, Latvian, Slovkian etc) and came up with the following for the KB390 as mentioned earlier by chipko.
Weight - 48kg
Max capacity - 800kg
Max Outboard - 15hp
It appears as though they have increased the length and kept everything else the same. Its a shame they haven't beefed up the transom so as to increase the max outboard weight a little, a 390 at 48kg would have been of interest to me.

Morning all,
I'm still searching.
Waiting to hear back on a price for the elling, and still perusing outboards.
The likelihood of finding a 9.8 2 stroke is slim, so also looking at 15hp 2 strokes.
If I allowed to post links to eBay, what reservations would people have with regards to: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/255759685...mis&media=COPY
Looks decent, reserve is probably closer to a grand, but I'm expecting to spend around 1200 for a reasonable condition outboard.

Hi Nixon, just a couple of things I noticed:-
There could be a rational explication, but, why no Serial Identification Plate? Why was it taken off? I wouldn't buy a car without a VIN plate on it.
The video of the OB running is useless, it doesn't show anything. I'd want to see it running before I parted with any money.

Morning Steve, yeah that puzzled me with it not having an ID plate, potentially it could be older than assumed and perhaps done a lot more hours.
I'm watching some motors on there from Cambridge Outboards, which seem like a much safer bet.

I know where there is an Elling that hasn’t been in the water yet.

No serial number MIGHT result in some insurance companies refusing cover.
You do need to see an engine running before buying, ideally from cold - who knows how many takes the seller had to do to get a good one, esp if the engine has starting issues or rough running at certain throttle positions.
You may pay more from a trader, but you have greater comeback in law if the item turns out to be faulty which isn't the case with a private sale.

Yeah that was my concern really. I'm in no huge rush to commit so I'll keep looking and wait for the right boat/motor at the right price.
I'm only 45 minutes down the road from Cambridge Outboards so they make sense if they have what I'm after.

Not had an engine from them but I've had a few bits & pieces - incl throttle/gear cables & various gaskets - from them this year & delivery was very quick.
