RIB Seat Fabric

Afternoon all

The backrests on rib need the fabric replacing as they are currently held together with duct tape.
I have someone who is nifty with a sewing machine but i have no idea what material would be best, all i know is it needs to be black and water resistant. Does anyone have any pointers?

Thanks,

G

You need a vinyl coated fabric and a person with a heavy industrial sewing machine or even an HF welding machine for a completely watertight seam. Maybe an upholsterer, a sail maker, tarpaulin maker or a sadler. A domestic sewing machine will not cope with the heavy fabric you need.

You’ll need a good quality uv marine grade vinyl such as Nautolex or Sunbrella. A household sewing machine won’t be able to cope with the heavy grade material.

It will have to be an industrial one, also capable of doing double stitching like French seams so it will need heavy grade needle, cotton and a pressure foot.

I costed doing it myself but for a single job, it’s just not worth it. Granted the material isn’t expensive but watching google videos doesn’t do it justice. It’s a professional job
