Rib steering bearing

hi
After rib run down the Menai,I noticed the steeirng wheel has a lot of play developed in this area, some coming from the bolted steering column bush which is bolted on in only 2 places through the Helm .The main play seems to coming from the shaft which the steering wheel is mounted on and presume their is a bearing (Plastic bush or metal perhaps brass or roller or taper bearing) Can anyone say which it will likely to be
The rib is a Chinnook Sea Fury 5.5 metres about 25 years old with heavy 125hp
Evinrude engine V4

Not aware if there's spares for helm units like Ultraflex or similar (thought they were sealed units?) Have a look under the console to see if you can see make. If engine is heavy then hydraulic steering may be the way to go.

Get some pictures up so we can take a closer look.

A helm and cable is just over a hundred quid if it's lasted 25 years I'd just replace like for like .I doubt a hydraulic system would do much better as they go wrong too.
You might get just a helm unit but I think there about £70 and cable is bound to be worn too.
Probably closer to 500 for a hydraulic system. most suppliers do helm and cable kits check Bainbridge ,aqua fax, asap supplies, etc
