RIB Storage on the West Coast of Scotland
Hi there,
I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for places to store a RHIB w/trailer on the west coast of Scotland, ideally in or around the Oban area? We're a student dive club on the east coast looking to permanently store our RHIB on the west coast so we don't have the problem of towing the RHIB over every time - we have no student members able to tow the rhib at the moment.
We'd be looking for indoor storage but will definitely consider outdoor storage if the price is right. It's a 5.5ft humber rhib. Any suggestions most welcome!
Thanks,
Victoria

Puffin divers have boat storage in Oban, it's outdoors though. Should be perfect for a dive club.

Failing the above suggestions there is also Dunstaffnage or Linnhe Marina.

Macqueens storage in town www.macqueenbros.com/
Do containers that are big enough to hold a saloon car- might fit a deflated rib?
Stoddarts.co.uk did storage once- not sure if they still do since they have moved
You could ask http://www.trail-west.com who do trailer and caravan repairs- stored our rib for a couple of weeks whilst awaiting parts

Hi Victoria, not sure if this any use but (as you're attached to a university) have you thought about http://www.sams.ac.uk/ who are based in Dunstaffnage? Don't know how amenable they'd be, but may be worth the ask.

There's also the boatyard at Loch Feochan, I can't remember the name. They were very friendly, good slip & a pontoon. They charged us £30 for the week.

Boat storage in Oban area
Indoor storage around the Oban area is fairly limited, but there are some options. The Marine Resource Centre (MRC) at Barcaldine has plenty of space through the summer and is readily available but maybe a wee bit off the beaten track for divers. Oban Marina on the isle of Kerrera also has shed space (at a price) but you have somewhat limited accessibility as you are constrained by their ferry times - every hour during the summer. Often worth a call to the local farmers, see what they can offer

How are you planning to launch? Linnhe slip is a bit skiddy (or it was the one c time I used it with snow on it ... ;-) )
If you can't tow it at the moment dya need tractor launching...?

Creran Marine would be my top choice
Other good ones are Linnhe Marine, and Barcaldine Marine
I would avoid Dunstaffnage like the plague
