How about a tunnel hull SIB like a Zapcat or Surfcat / Gemini GRX? 4.2m and can do the speed

You'll be going a damn sight faster in it for longer when it's not flat calm too. Dunno if Gibbo is still on here, but his with a Yam 50 on it used to do propstands.

Having driven one of the little Avon jet ribs, I'd suggest you'll get very fed up very fast trying to get more than 2 people on it for a day out as well.

I am going to go with your advice as I have nothing to lose. I think i'm going to strip everything from the inside of the boat and start again with a design that will work around what I am looking for.
Then try and find a 2 stroke, 50hp yam engine with full controls, fit that and sell my 40hp set up....
Be nice to have something to get stuck into as my car is the way I want it and all other interests are finished and just require enjoying.
What do you mean when you say 2T engine Btw ?

I'll stick before and after photos when all done, anyone recommend where I can get fibreglass in a small bulk order ?
Thanks for all the opinions from everyone btw, i'm slowly learning but it all made a good read

i have owned both an avon searider and an avon jet rib. there is no problem hitting 40mph on either one. i had a mercury 2 stroke 50hp on the avon 4.0 and after a few different prop changes was able to hit about 43mph before i started to porpois a bit. I had no problem with chinewalking side to side, my boat started to rise in the bow and then drop. i believe its called porposing. I had the avon seasport320 with the jockey console. I could hit almost 45 with no issues at all except the smile i couldnt wipe off my face. it was a blast. so i dont believe you need anything bigger than that to comfortably go 40. though if u need the room for 3 people with gear they are tight

Does the Avon have a ride plate under the pump where it joins the intake grate?

Zapcat/surfcat would be a good choice IMO, plenty speed, good on fuel, lightweight and very easy to launch and recover. Great in rough seas and surf and very fast when it's calm, you wont have more fun on the water than in one

There’s a considerable difference between the OPs 40kn & your 40mph. Just sayin’

....not to mention fitness and handling skills!

"Three up"AND fishing gear ( let alone 40knts!) in ANY sort of "Sea"... would be worth getting the Gopro out for too I'd recon!
