Well ........... the deed has been done and a new Ribcraft 585 is on order for delivery in April 19.

Powered by a Merc 150 with Active trim and Smartcraft.

Spec is pretty standard apart from twin batteries and wingbacks for helm & Nav and a stern reversable bench seat............

Electronics will be all garmin with AIS & a Fusion entertainment system ......

My currrent RIB is almost sold, but I can live through the next few months with no boat.

A massive thanks to Pikey Dave & Lakelandterrier for helping me through the thought process and pointing me in the right direction with our friends in Yeovil........

I "missed" this thread for a while. Wingbacks are legend - I use one on the helm. If it's not too late, get the builder to measure you up before the final seat positioning - you'll not regret the extra hassle.

I was "measured" for my helm position - an experience that reminded me of a trip to the tailor. You need to be able to prop yer arse in the wingback while holding the wheel and the throttle without bending your back too much. Too far back and it's a waste of time, too far forward and you can't sit down. Worth putting a lot of work into now.

Spot on!
Its one of the main advantages of buying and speccing a New custom built RIB for YOURSELF...and any time spent making sure the Ergo's and driving position are a 100% on fit for you... is very well spent!

Congratulations on the big decision for a new build. Glad my advice was of some use.

Don't hesitate to pm me re. any thoughts / questions - I've been through the process twice with Ribcraft - it's still quite flexible. Can't fault the end product - especially of the 585

And waiting is the name of the game ................

However, I am going to take this opportunity to put in a good word for Ribcraft as an 'honest' supplier ............

The boat was due before the end of the FY (5th April), but at the moment they have 7 staff off with a bug.

Unfortunately it was required for a PB2 course for my son & grandson on the 13/14, but that has had to be cancelled ........... Mark at Ribcraft immediately offered to pay the cancellation fee (not insignificant) without any prompting at all ........ something which I was expecting to have an adult conversation about, but not necessary as he dealt with it in a most professional manner. Also, they have offered to fill the fuel tank ready for my collection in about 3 weeks time.

What stuck in my head when having a conversion with Mark was his very matter of fact words "I will never compromise our quality just to deliver a boat on time, we can work something out"

I have been invited up to the factory on Friday to see progress ...........

Being in business myself, I was mighty impressed with the 'upfront' attitude

What's worth having is worth waiting for ..........

I’ve always found Ribcraft delivery dates a tad “flexible” but as you say, worth waiting for[emoji106]

I don't think "flexible delivery dates" are a Ribcraft specific term; more anything Marine based. [emoji20]

Any other sector would go out of business but they have you by the short and curlies.

True, I think once you wander into the bespoke areas of any market, the rules change. My camper conversion “slipped” a month. But that’s the price you pay for a niche product. If you go into it with your eyes open, the end result is (hopefully) worth waiting for.

True Dave, very true.............

Niche product is what Ribcraft are good at, and they are even willing to entertain quite last minute changes. TBH I get that comfortable feeling from Mark that says "I will deliver exactly what you want".

I didn't know until the other day that Mark is an accomplished Helo pilot and Charlie also has PPL for both Helo and fixed wing ........

When I bought the boat before this one, I had a few minor snagging issues. I contacted Charlie & his first question was “is there anywhere to land near your house?” WTF!! He was going to “nip” up & sort the problems. I assured him it wouldn’t be necessary, he sent me some bits & bobs overnight & I fixed it meself. If I’d been unwilling/incapable of sorting the problems, he’d have flown up & fixed it. Fair play.
