Ribcraft 585 vs Ribtec 585

How do they compare? Done some research online re the Ribtec and it seems well regarded.

Absolutely no idea about the Ribtec, so I can't comment. I had a RC 585 for around 6 years & on balance it was probably the best boat I've had, not that I've had many. Needs plenty of horses on the back, I had 175 but a 135-150 would be plenty. If I had 1 complaint, it was a tad short of freeboard on the transom, but that was with a full load of divers. I'd buy another without any qualms if I was in the market for that size boat.

Cheers Pikey. I've read loads about the RC585 almost all of it positive. Noticed the lack of freeboard at the stern, but it doesn't seem to be the same on all boats (comparing BernHanreck's to "Just Looking"). One of the few boats I'd be tempted to by without having tried it first.

What I'm really after is opinions on the Ribtec. Looks similar and from a respected (if now defunct brand).

Found this, but I don't know how old/relevant the article is?

Im sure they altered the freeboard on the 585 since 2010 ish. I know they changed the hull a reasonable amount but you would need the ask for sure

I've had both and I would go for the Ribtec.

The Ribcraft is slightly better built (tougher) but the Ribtec rides much better and is actually 6m loa where as the Ribcraft is 5,85m loa.

Depends what you want it for really.

Old Ribcraft 585 with Mariner on the back vs new Ribcraft 585 with Suzuki on the back.

The older ones have a steeper bow and ride in waves a bit better.

Both great boats. Used lots of them. Would be happy with either but think I'd go for the ribtec if I was buying either.

Handeling better on the Ribtec, I loved mine and traded up to a 655. As for build quality, nothing to choose between my current 2011 boat and any Ribcrafts I've seen, couple of niggles on my 585 but they were more to do with the people who rigged it.
