I've been quoted £360 for the stainless steel 4/5 liferaft cage - even through the boat is going to be coded - its mainly there for the wife insistence if the kids are going with me on some jaunts..
That's part of a large list in the quote so may be discounted?

Where is the liftraft going on the boat?
Mine is in front of the front bench seat, had the guys add a grab handle to the liftraft cage to act as the front seats grab handle............works very well and is very tidy.

That's a great idea...
Mine is in front of the console and behind the two front jocket seats (these will have grab handles on them). This layout seemed to work out well on Vampire - at the helm you can't see it all, it doesnt get in the way moving around the Rib so should be good.
I mentioned it was a bit of a last minute addition as the wife jumped up and down a bit when I mentioned I hadnt spec'd one (due to cost mainly) ... Dorian is still to come back on which liferaft will be sourced for the cage and cost....

Unless you use the boat commercially I really wouldn't bother with a liferaft on a RIB. You are far better staying with the boat - even if it's full of water. The only time a liferaft is needed is if you capsize - and how the hell do you launch the liferaft if you are upside down???

Yeah - I don't dissagree but combination of the wife's insistence and also the need to get the boat coded really made the call...
For the sake of a grand I suppose it's something that you can move from boat to boat and sell on if need be...

The all round white is surface mount...not sure what make it is. It's about 650mm above the port/starboard lights, so I guess our 'low' frames are about the same height

I will give you the one about the fire but properly built RIBs shouldn't have their tubes ripped off. Even if they do suffer bad damage they usually still float - even if they do get rather wet!!!

mmm... because there are no precedents for the tubes being so detached from the hull that the provide no bouyancy - even from otherwise well respected manufacturers?

but liferafts are precisely for dealing with the unusual events.
However we are getting off topic, and if Ronin's Mrs says he can get a brand new boat if he sticks a liferaft on it - then that sounds like a very good reason to get one to me.

My concern is that with a liferaft people are tempted to use it. Thank god I have never been in that situation but from all I have read and seen people are usually better off staying with their vessel.
Anyway i didn't realise he needed it to be coded so it's pretty academic now!!!

On Evolution I have the raft right at the front which helps to balance the boat - theres a lot of weight at the back with the console, batteries, driver etc.

Hi There
Popped to factory to pick up some mail and noticed the Ullman seats have arrived, still shocked how much they are !!
So I will post more pics on Monday 5th with boat being fitted out

Razzer - thanks for the update -
Know what you mean about the Ullmans - though everyone I know who has used them in rough water for any length of time swear by them .. but how they can justify the cost is beyone me - must be the 'small market, high quality build and innovative product' concept again....
Look forward to the new stage pictures and will be down at factory myself on 6th to bother everyone.... heehee

put my thoughts in, if you havn't done it already, looks like you thought of most things, pop out cleats on either side of the console makes coming alongside a doddle, backup the inside of the console where you fit them, thought i'll add that before somebody else states the obivious

sorry me again, just had a good look at your pics, nice, i'm assuming they are going to put wet grp on top of your bulkheads and stringers and drop the deck on it, i'm also assuming that they will glass conduits to the underside of the deck before dropping it on, make sure that when they notch out the bulkheads to match where the conduits are that they cover them in glass also
