Ribcraft or Ribeye
Been mainly looking out for a Ribcraft 585 but a number of people have suggested a Ribeye A600.
the rib will mainly be used in and around Plymouth and the South Coast. I've heard the Ribcraft is a good seaboat in the chop but what's the Ribeye like?

Of the 2, Ribcraft would be better suited to your area.
You could of course, consider other options......

Check out the Osprey Vipermax 5.8m. Harder to find, but a superb hull.

I have an opinion, but might be a tad biased
Arrange a test drive on each before making any decision

+ 1 a test drive will definitely help
One med type hull, one deep vee uk type hull
I think you will see a huge difference in ride quality, a test drive should do the trick

Try both, wait while ribcraft decide if your money is good enough, at the same time be impressed with ribeye treating you like a proper customer......get the ribeye and happy days!
Just the impression I get of both from talking to people with 1st hand dealings.....
If buying used try both and see what you like, then buy that one :-)

I agree, I got first class treatment from Rib Eye and they opened up on a sat for us as we had traveled down from merseyside, was also offered a test run in two different boats.

Are people really swayed into buying a boat, based on the actions of the sales personnel?

I bought the RC 585 after a good look around but never saw a ribeye but did try the osprey 6.5 and a Parker 630 and all three were so different, I have really enjoyed owning the ribcraft 585 and the Suzuki DF140 has been superb and fantastic on fuel. I just can't fault it. Been all over the place in her and she's just been great.
But really, you need to try both to make up your own mind

Well...yes and no. If the company makes you feel like they don't give a damn about you, you're not going to have a lot of confidence in their warranty for example. It might not make you buy the boat, but it'll stop plenty from buying one from that manufacturer.

As a rib novice looking at organising a boat over the coming autumn, could you give me an idea what the differences were between the Osprey 6.5 and the Ribcraft 585
and what tipped the balance in favour of the Ribcraft in terms of meeting your requirements?
ie, are we talking ride, build quality, console design, etc?
Interesting also that yours is the latest excellent report I've read from users on here regarding the fuel economy of the Suzuki DF140....

living in Yeovil I pop in to Ribcraft regularly for spares. yesterday had to wait 20 min to buy a tube of sealant, its mad in there delivery boxes everywhere, very busy phones going, building boats in the workshop.
its a fairly small company that seems to have reached saturation point due to its popularity.
they have a superb product, I wouldn't be put off, by their "apparent" lack of interest, ring again.

maybe the actions of sales personnel don't sway people into buying a rib, but those same actions can certainly sway people into not buying a rib! same old story, good customer service will make a difference, especially to a family looking to buy a family orientated rib. if however you are after an all out rough weather go anywhere anytime rib then your more likely to base your decision on the spec not the staff. but that sort of rib isn't likely to be a good family rib.

No idea of your budget but if you are looking for a Ribeye A600 / RC585 sized boat what about this Ribtec 655 ?
http://www.rib.net/forum/f21/2011-ri...ale-55631.html
I have helmed this particular boat and it handles really well, and is in immaculate condition.
No connection with the boat other than I have used it once for a day and was impressed by the handling and layout considering it's size.

When we where ringing around, Rib Eye where one of the few manufacturers that went out of their way , showing us around the workshops, the build, layouts and hull types etc. Then arranged the demo runs all this knowing our second hand budget and type of boat we where after, I have no brownie points to score here chaps, there was no over the top pressure sales just a very nice informative experience .
And by the way due to budget and availability we did'nt get a Rib Eye in the end but in many peoples view the next best thing .( and thats all I'm going to say about that) LOL LOL

When I bought my Vipermax, I also considered a RC585, but opted for the VM, despite the salesman not being particularly 'upfront' nor bending over backwards to get my business. My decision was based mainly on the product and of course price.
Happy with my decision. 'After sales' didn't really feature in my decision, as I knew it would be a quality product in either case.

If you think buying new or ex-demo, and if you are after decent service and a good product talk to Parker Rib. That is Andre on this forum.

Yes the sales team can be influential, especially where the brands / products may be quite similar.
If I'd done my research & narrowed a choice down - allowing fro the pro & cons of different models to say 2/3 which all pretty much met my requirements overall, with nothing I could compromise on, then the company that treated me with respect, was flexible went the extra mile to help me is and was easy to deal with, would be more likely to secure my business than a business that didn't care & was difficult to deal with if the overall productrs were on balance pretty evenly matched.
If the company wan't offering a product I wanted / didn't meet my requirements then no I wouldn't be swayed by any sales staff.
Disclaimer - I hasten to add this is a general opinion and is not a reflection on my view of either Ribeye or Ribcraft. LT's opinions can do down as well as up
