RIBEX 2012 is moving.
It's going to be at Gunwharf Quays.

Not sure how that will work. Not a lot of space on the water or land + when I took it over back in 2008 I had to jump through hoops to get everything approved. expensive car park charges, not a lot of cheap reasonable quality accomodation.By far the best place would be Port Solent. The workboat show started there 20 years ago and was ok. loads of free parking, 3 hotels close by and masses of space on the land. Alan P

I went to the first at Ocean Village, it was pretty small - maybe scaling things back...

Yep gunwharf will be too small ocean village is also ok. Interestingly Cowes yacht haven yesterday knew nothing about it and had the venue booked for Ribex. They were somewhat annoyed no one had rung them

It wont be a small show, they are taking over the whole of the Gun Wharf area, going right back through to the shopping areas, They have gone through all the right channels and the whole site is dedicated to RIBEX for attended dates. From the plans that I have seen I have to say it will transform the show, giving it a fresh look, revamp and have something for everyone on display.
The excitement from the industry has been fantastic and preparations have already started.
Im not involved with the show, so cant give details, however from what I have seen it looks good.

Good to see a new venue, went along last year and was a little dissapointed (and that is being polite), so didnt go this.
As long as the date doesnt clash will almost certainly go along to Pompey

I have run big events at Gunwharf and I have taken over the whole site and it is hard work. A lot of people complain about the car parking charges. Wish HMS luck but I feel it is the wrong place. If he is expecting any help from PCC, forget it., Anything they give him will not be worth the aggro. I read in the News last night that it has been "Portsmouth Ambition" to hold a big boat show. Personaly I feel they should run the city properly first!!!! AP

Gunwarf that in Portsmouth - is that the place they tried and cancelled a few years back?
Costing me my airfares and hotel booking since it was cancelled...the year before moving to isle of Wight?

Give Portsmouth a chance. It could be a great RIBEX venue at Gun Wharf ....

I have to say as someone who is fairly new to the world of RIBs the prospect of a free (think it said free in rib mag this month) show in a venue that allows me to "hoodwink" the missus in to a trip to the coast at a nice shopping venue has the makings of a great show.
Hopefully it opens up the sport to people who might not have given it a second thought before and come across it on a shopping trip to the area.

It will be interesting to see how the on-water demos will work. I can imagine QHM will get a bit tired of being asked for permission to cross the channel!
The VHP will be busy
