I bought a whaly 435 this year and swear by them for easy boating. I get the family on it with no problems, its easy to beach, little maintenance needed and whips along at just under 30kts with one fatty on board with a 1992 mariner. Its cheap and easy. Only con is it can be a wet ride at speed on chop, but saying that I have had it in big seas and launched it on a few waves and it handled superb. heres a vid of it

I really like the look of that Whaly 435.
Does anyone know if it takes a long shaft or short shaft engine.

Also like the Funyak like Poly 's.
I can vouch for its performance in a West of Scotland chop☺
I am leaning heavily towards one of these bomb proof little numbers as a replacement for my Honwave 3.5ae.

The whaly 435 is a 20" (long) transom taking up to a 30HP - 184 kg
The whaly 370 is a long transom taking up to a 20HP - 145 kg
The whaly 310 is a short transom taking up to a 10HP - 105 kg

I can imagine the Gurnard in a "Classic 440" in ten years time...

The funyak 450/secu15 is long shaft upto a 50HP - 200(?)kg
The funyak 390 (mine) is long shaft - but they claim you can get away with a short?? (not sure that needs a saw - the wooden part is easily replacable). - taking upto a 30HP - 120 kg
The funyak 360/secu12 is short shaft upto a 20HP - 105 kg

Weights are the weight of the empty hull (console excluded). If you can find a whaly and want to try side by side give me a shout.

Ten years is a long time Poly.. and at my age.. my own glue may need re doing or I may have that many patches.. I may not want to last any longer.

But one thing for sure is.. I know why a SIB on a trailer is the best and most versatile boat for me just now.

I have had my fill of moorings and yachts

Dinghy and launching trolleys

Hardshells and cuddies

I can’t launch any of those myself now.. not unless I use slipways..or moorings..which as you know.. is not my type of boating anymore.

Ten years time ? I guess I will be happy if I can still launch and retrieve the smallest of my fleet on my own.

However .. If I was a bit stronger..and I keep looking at it ...and trying to convince myself that I am still young and strong.. I would get this boat..if it stays there much longer.. I might just hope that I can shove it across a beach .... so someone please .. gazump this one and put me out my misery

Takes a long shaft but the engine could do with being raised by an inch or so

I originally was after a funyak 390 as I saw a few of their videos in choppy water which is what I wanted. Unfortunately for me, Ian from Nestaway boats has a factory next to mine so managed to catch me before I headed north!

I was hoping I could get away with a short shaft engine as I've got a 20hp twatsu 4 stroke which I've owned from new.
My budget doesn't extend to a new engine as well at this moment in time.
Not in a major rush to get rid of my Sib.
Ideally I think a 30hp tiller on either the Whaly or Funyak would be ideal for my needs.
I'm gonna have a look at both boats in the coming months.
There's potential for me to get a Funyak this coming season if it is compatible with my short shaft twatsu.
I'd probably look to get a bigger engine into 2017.

Ribeye or???

I'm now the proud, and very happy, owner of a Honwave T38 with 20HP Honda on the back.

I can't believe how easy it is. I can park up anywhere with river/sea access, inflate the boat and be on the water within 20 minutes. No worrying about finding somewhere to park the trailer, or queue for the slip. Doesn't take up space on the drive. Good balance of fun/practical/convenience.

OK - so I've not owned it long, but so far so good...

It was a Terhi boat that set me off on this recent quest to find the right vessel... glad I got to where I am, although I still recon, for the money, those Terhi boats are great.
